Help, windows vista won't start up on my laptop

Hi, I've had my laptop for about 2 and a half years, vista was already installed on it and it was running fine albeit a bit slow for the past year or so, up until this morning.
I turned my laptop on, and it recommended that I do a system repair. So I did, but it didn't work. I restarted and it told me to do the same thing.
I can't seem to get on to the safe mode, I press f2 before the whole "system repair" thing pops up, and it doesn't say anything about safe mode.
I'm completely inept when it comes to computers/laptops and technology, I havent backed up my files or anything and it also wouldn't let me do that thing where you set the settings back a few days...

Can anyone help me, it's very frustrating.

f8 is safe mode. Try it and report back.

Choose the regular safe mode. Once there try to do a system restore.

In safe mode follow this:

Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore - How-To Geek

Use system restore.

I tried regular safe mode, it did nothing, just loaded a load of things, then rebooted itself, tried to do a system restore but it just come up with
"To perform an offline system restore, you must specify which windows installation you would like to restore.
For example, if the installation located in "C:\Windows" should be restored, enter the following command: rstrui.exe/OFFLINE:C:\Windows"

When it comes up with the operating systems, it doesnt come up with Windows Vista and I dont have the disk for it to enter into the CD rom...

No, like I said in a previous post, whenever I tried going onto safemode, it would load a load of things, then reboot itself and I've got the same problem.

Oh, yeah that I've seen, I've just done the startup repair, and it said something about the volume that's corrupted and it's failed to repair it.
