Yes, you have to go to BIOS and set to boot from DVD.

Look at previous post, you have to get into BIOS, this time, not safe mode, not f8.

Okay, I done all that, the cd installed all the files and such, I saw the "install vista" "repair vista" etc, so I clicked on repair vista, it went to the OS but in the white box it still didnt say what my system was. So I clicked okay, and I'm trying a startup repair again. Is there anything else I can do?

It's still rebooting recommending that i launch repair system. That's with the boot with cd still on... Should I turn that off and try again?

My Computer

Does not sound good, Rox. Try to boot normally and see what happens, after the repair is completed.

OK, before I give you the next step, which you may not like, I want to be sure.

System Restore does not work
System Rcovery did not work
The Repair DVD did not work
You cannot get into recovery, the page is blank.

Is that correct?

You've been a fantastic help Rich, I've read that the laptop would need to be wiped clean and set back to the settings etc. So I have a few friends who are able to do that, and I'll have to have a word with them before I get the laptop further into the hole I've dug for it.
Thankyou again for your help, I really appreciate it

My Computer

You got me before I went out. I really tried everything I could, but sometimes, you must take drastic action. In the future, back up everything so it will be easier. Take care.

I am also having a problem with my start up. It mentions about checking the disk for consistency then after doing this, it goes to the light blue background screen with the words "please wait" with the spinning blue polo mint but won't go any further

Edit - the problem seems to have cleared itself and has eventually booted up

Hi,

Here are few steps that could be tried if this issue reoccurs.

1. Try to do SFC scannow and check if the issue gets fixed; please use the following link for detailed instructions: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html
2. Also you can try, Check Disk from within the Drive's Properties Page, providing the link for reference: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-chkdsk.html
3. Run the built-in diagnostics provided by the manufacturer of the computer to check if the hardware is working fine.

If you have any questions further can reply back to us.
