Windows Help & Support window on startup

I've purchased a new lappie with Vista 32-bit Home which works perfectly except the "Windows help and support" window comes on at boot before I've touched a key and will not be erased! I can only delete the helppane.exe process to get rid of it. I've seen an earlier post re Microsoft Kb917607 but this didn't work. Why is it happening and how can I start it? There's nothing in msconfig re helppane.exe. Apart from a reformat I'm stuck. Would upgrading to the latest Service Pack help? What is the latest SP on Vista Home? Thanks. Steve

Yes, updating to the latest SP would be a good idea, in the start menu search box type "winver" without the quotes to see the build number; be sure to post back to keep us informed.

6001 is SP 1 and 6002 is SP 2

Hi Bare Foot Kid
The story is that the computer is my father's and he lives 15 miles away. I installed SP2 successfully but the problem persists. The computer is not on the internet. I notice that the window only comes up on warm boot but not on cold boot. Do you have any more ideas? Thanks for your help. Steve
