Solved Unable to change Background!

I have been searching throught the many sites to try find a solution. After a recent virus extermination my background has become stuck on a solid colour. I have tried looking through regedit, ease of access, changing theme and I made a new account but it also was not able to be changed. This is starting to get really annoying! Also when i go to select a picture in the desktop background menu none of the pictures are able to be seen but they can be selected but again don't change. Any help would be great!!

Use your Vista Disk, and boot from the CD Drive and try a Startup Repair. To boot from a CD, you will need to go to your BIOS. When you press the Power Button on your computer, press one of the following keys repeatedly: F2, F6, F8, DEL. It depends on your computer, and those are the most common keys. It may be different, and it should say on the flash screen what key to push for about a second.

When you get in, change the first item that boots to your CD drive. Place the disk in the drive and restart the computer.

okay, thanks again for your help. Tried a system restore but says that there are no system restore files. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

I made a recovery disk when I first got my laptop. If I use that will it get rid of my software on my computer? There are a few things like anti virus that can't be reinstalled.

No it just does a repair, it does not remove anything.

Sorry, but that recovery disc is different than your Toshiba (OEM) recovery disc.

The one in the tutorial will only allow you to boot into the "System Recovery Options" (winre) screen to be able to try and repair Vista with. It will not reinstall Vista.

The Toshiba (OEM) recovery disc on the other hand will format your hard drive and do a factory restore of Vista to have Vista installed back like it was the day you first turned it on out of the box.

Did you check this to see if that may have been the issue?

I made a recovery disc using Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator for my laptop, the same day I got the it. Am I able to use this to help with me stupid background problem? If so how do I use it? Will it get rid of some of my software?

This will wipe anything out that you installed since turning on the computer out of the box. You will need to reinstall any program that you installed since then afterwards. Be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first.

Thank you all for all your help so far, I might save the recovery disks for a last resort.
Do you think the thumbnails of picture not showing when I go to change my background properties has anything to do with the problem?

That and that nasty virus you had. It sure seems that you may need to bite the bullet to do a factory recovery to have a fresh install of Vista again. :(
