My sister has the same laptop as me, is their anyway I can cross check settings or regedit or anything similar, and change them on mine so they match and see if that helps get rid of the problem?

Solved Unable to change Background!

Use / misuse of the Windows registry can disable the PC and to "experiment" with your sister's is not a good idea as it may end up as yours.

Thanks for all your advice. If I right click on a picture in google images site and set it as a background, it seems to work and I can see the image. But when I shut down and turn back on the picture is not there anymore. Any solutions would be helpful. Thanks

Thanks guys for all your help. I used my system recevory disc and rebooted my computer, that seems to have done the trick and everything appears to be back to normal. ONce thank you for all your help.

I found another solution that I thought I would post for others.
Go to C:\Users\username\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery and change the name of Pictures.pd4. Then use wallpaper_enable.reg, that should then fix the problem of both no picture thumbnails and changing of the background.
