Battery goes dead - system does not boot up to where it was before

I thought I had this problem licked, but obviously I don't. I noticed tonight, when the battery was allowed to go completely dead, I plugged the machine into AC - and when it booted up, it did so but not to where I was before. Instead, it just boots up to Windows.
In the Power Options / Critical Battery Action, I have it set for Hibernate (for batter) and in the Low Battery Option, I have Do Nothing. This is where the Default takes me and it worked a couple times, but the last couple times it is not.

Any idea as to what might help me overcome this unhappy snag?

It could be the battery itself is worn or faulty. Usually when it goes into hibernate it saves enough power to keep files in memory. But if you lose power completly it will just shut off.

It did this with the old battery several times. I just hurled in a new battery. But of course this does not contradict your suggestion that it still could be faulty. This battery does last though, between two and three hours. But do you think even though a battery will give that much time, still could be faulty? Do you have any other suggestions?

CMOS battery? Is your clock ok?

When the compuer is off, everything is saved by the CMOS battery. If the clock is not working right, check the CMOS battery. If that battery is dying, one should get it replaced before additional problems.

The usual sign that the battery is going, is that the time is incorrect after boot, but that is obviously not your situation.

No - I don't think this is a battery problem. As stated earlier, when I purposely let the battery go totally dead this afternoon, and after plugging back in to AC, it "resumed Windows" and took me back to where I was.
The problem is, it hasn't always been doing that over the last couple weeks or so. Once it will do it - next time it won't. Shall I keep a Fire Extinguisher close by?
Seriously, if you've got something else up your sleeve, let me know. Appreciate the feedback.

The hiberanate function is conrolled by something similar to hiberfil.sys. In any event we do not need the exact name. Every time you turn off hibernate, that file is gone. It returns when you turn on hibernate. Bottom line, turn off hibernate. Boot the computer and turn hibernate back on. Lets see what happens. The hiberfil file may be corrupt.

I've done what you've stated. I'll leave this thread open till I allow the battery to die a few times. That way, we'll see what it does and I'll keep you posted.

Hope it works. If not report back. I, and the rest of the Membership, will try our best to help

Here's the scoop Richc46 - three times the battery was allowed to go completely dead and it bounced right back to where I was when plugged into AC.
Fourth time allowed to go dead, it did not perform correctly, even though the settings were not changed. Any idea as to what makes it do this?

My Computer

The ocassional problem with hibernation is a bug that many experience. You can see if you can try to remedy the situation by typing cmd in search (do not hit enter) right click run as administrator. In cmd type sfc /scannow.

Did the scan - found errors - will let the battery die again a few times to see what goes.
This battery thing is synonymous with the laptop going to sleep on its own - will go to sleep three or four times on its own then will not. Thus the same with the battery issue. It's as though this laptop is programmed somehow to do something like the above three or four times then will not.
Let's see what happens - appreciate your help Richc46.

If errors are found run 3 or 4 times. Only one error is fixed each time.

Shall do - I thought when it said *errors found* that all would have been fixed. Anyway, I'll run this sfc/scannow a few times till there is no errors found. It will be interesting if this fixes the problems.

My Computer

You do know, that I am wishing as much as you.
After 3 or 4 times, and there are still errors, possibly it could not fix the remainder.
