Downloaded windows 32 bit recovery kit "illegally" without a lisence and now...

They want to take us to court.

HELP.
I took advise off a member on this site who informed me to download a repair kit and My dad was on the pc I downloaded it on earlier, and a message popped up saying I downloaded it without a lisence and we need to go to court.

How can I fix this without getting into more trouble or attending court???

I can't see anything wrong with what was posted. If you get the message again, can you please attach it as an image to a reply. I'm interested in what it actually says, and whether or not there are any spelling mistakes in the message.

Windows will never give you a message telling you that you need to go to court. If Microsoft felt you were doing something illegally, they would send you a letter or contact the courts directly.

What you have sounds like a virus. Download Malwarebytes and do a full scan.

I read through Richard's posts there, and he did nothing wrong. It sounds like you picked up something.

This is helpful, along with the other posts. I never meant to get Rich into trouble, the help he gave me was very helpful but unfortunately didn't work (I now have my laptop up and running)
But as for downloading malwarebytes, I've got AVG on the main pc, wouldn't that pick up anything?
The window that popped up said it was that windows 32 bit file that was downloaded illegally... Why would it pop up with that and not any other files?

My dad's just informed me that we keep getting two pop ups on the main pc, saying
"Threat
Exploit Rogue Scanner Type 1056" and
"Exploit Rogue Spyware scanner type 506"

Does this mean anything?

The repair disc ISO you downloaded is perfectly legal. Either AVG is acting up (wouldn't surprise me, but unlikely in this case), or you have a virus.

AVG is not known for it's great virus detection; it gives both false positives and lets stuff get in.

Uninstall AVG completely, and use MSE instead: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Edit: Saw your second post. Do what AVG recommends, and then scan with both Malwarebytes and MSE.

What's the difference between AVG and MSE?

Whenever I do a scan on my laptop with AVG, it seems to bog down my internet and general response on the laptop

I concur with Jonathan. It is possible that you have picked up some malware (or even had on your system prior to this) that you weren't/aren't aware of. It should be said that no AV software picks up 100% of the malware that is about due to its nature. An AV solution can only detect malware if the definitions that it uses contain the required signatures for that piece of malware. MBAM is capable of running alongside your regular AV program without any problems.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) is by a different company. It is faster, more lightweight, causes less problems, and does not affect boot times much.

AVG has problems, simply put. It causes BSODs and messes up other stuff. MSE will slow down your machine slightly when you run a scan, but not as bad as AVG.

I'll put in another vote for MSE considering I used to use AVG. I dropped AVG for MSE and couldn't really be happier.

You could use AVG rescue CD. Its not an antivirus, just a boot scanner. It scans your harddrive before the BIOS gives control to the hard drive, insteda the bios gives control to the scanner. Its preety good.

Like i said: the only good thing that came out of AVG.

The only absolute cure for anything is abstinence: ie, browsing only sites with valid certificates, sites that don't deal in lots of crazy code like (for instance, anonib with its annoying pop-ups and wacky links), and browsing only sites with dependable author information.

If a website provides no ways to reach the site author by legitimate e-mail, snail mail, telephone, or through a solvent, legal, and reputable corporation, don't take any downloads from it.

I downloaded MSE on the computer and my laptop, it runs perfect on my laptop, starts up itself every time.
However on my computer, it has to be manually started when the pc turns on. I've tried redownloading it and all that but it still won't start itself up.
Any ideas why?

Scammers have gotten much more sophisticated in disguising malware to get by average products like AVG. Microsoft Security Essentials is a highly rated combination of anti-virus and anti-malware. It has a much greater rate of detection than AVG.

I am new here, so I am not positive on all of the rules. If it is allowed, use this link for the best non-commercial tutorial on removing malware, all using free versions. I recently had to do this; it is a learning process, but the best work through I've seen.
