Solved adminstrative troubles

why am I unable to modify the hosts file when logged in as an administrator? I started my word processor with administrative rights as well. I've not had this issue doing so on administrative accounts that aren't the administrator account, but it seems really backwards to not be able to fully manage my os from its highest level account. the logic in security would be mad hatter talk imo.

also i wondered why some files are requiring that i get permission from trusted installer in order to modify them, such as removing cursors, foreign language files, theme specific media; etc.

is the administrator account not the tell-all in windows?

The trusted installer is there for your protection, It is the guardian of system files, which should not be changed.

bah, all that here's some advice...and i'm not meaning to put you down its just more than redundant to hear it about trusted installer or sudo and the wheel group; etc.

while i can understand measures for security, I don't understand the logic in saying it is for security without providing a pro quo for how the removal of foreign language files (which I don't understand), cursor sets, icon sets, generic backgrounds, and windows media for sound schemes is a matter of security. To me these particular items are just unneeded files taking up space. am i not an honorable enough man of society to control my own computer :P

I am smart enough to take a measure in order to prevent that I should damage the computer by altering integral parts of the computer (although blocking all windows systems from the internet wouldn't be pertinent in that respect), but even still how secure is a total lack of control over something with the potential to crash or become damaged...the obvious impressionable advice being well then run repair, restore, sfc; etc..but all the same

power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely? this is computers we're talking about and I said it so I get to apply it in my favor haha, I don't want Windows having any reign over itself. It's my operating system!

Can you tell me how to get permission from this admirable entity? the point of having the operating system is to use it, wouldn't really know where to start since the book stores all seem to have those generic titles, "Windows 7 Secrets", "Learning Windows Vista (click the media player button to turn it on...). Thanks Rich, or other would-be problem solvers.

boo! the forum might have cut your first post short because all it says on my end is that you shouldn't alter trusted installer for security reasons. take ownership of the file, that works. thanks for the quick reference too.
