Need Help With Vista Laptop With error on Start up

Hi all,

My Mum's laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens,Windows Vista home premium 32 bit, 2Gb of Ram, Integrated Intel graphics (I think), I cannot remember the hardrive stats at the moment but if it is neccesary i can try to find out. ( I'm 95% sure about the vista home premium 32 bit as well, i hardly use the laptop but if my memory serves me right its home premium 32 bit)

I get an error shortly after boot up that goes something like this:
"Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this."
You have 2 options, "Start windows Normally" or Try to repair. When i press repair, it stars loading some windows files and then really slowly goes onto Fujitsu siemens recovery with the only option to restore to factory settings.

I then tried to go to boot setup and restore all settings to default with no results.

Then i went onto pressing F8 to get the safeboot options but any option that boots the computer up starts loading the Windows with that rectangle thingy for about 10 secconds, then gives a blue screen error for 0.5 of a seccond and reboots. So i went to F8 again and pressed do not allow the laptop to reboot automaticly so i can see the Blue screen Error which reads as follows:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190444, 0x860F21D8, 0xC0000102,0x00000000)"

I have also tried to boot with last working settings and that leads to the same error.

I would reinstall the Laptop but we have a lot of photos on that laptop that are not saved on any cds/dvds. :(

Is there any hope to Save the Laptop?
Thanks in advance :D

P.S I have school tommorow so i might not be able to reply until like tommorow at around 5pm Uk time.

Hi Marti, do you have a copy of OS disk. Try to repair via the disk may help. That means boot up with the disk and then select repair and....

Hope this helps, Bruce

@richc46 I might have missed something but both those guides refer as if your able to login to desktop, i cannot login in anyhow as i get the Blue screen error in any way i try to boot the laptop to desktop.

Edit: onto backing up my HD, i have no idea how to do that ^^

I added to my post, 0000024 may mean hard drive problems. Back up, then test your hard drive at the website of the manufacturer.

I will get you instructions.

This should help

What I was suggesting you to try the Vista Operation System CD.

Just a quick Update - With my obvious bad luck, my HD make is western digital which acording to that site and my personal experience right now means their software testing doesn't work - just wasted 2 cds burned with 2 different softwares at slow speed and i even redownloaded the file. So i turned up and burned seagate seatools which is doing a long test atm.

The test is gonna take a while and i have to go to sleep so i will post the report tommorow. Thanks for your help guys so far.rep ++ :P

edit: @ Bruce2: i'm not sure what that cd is but i think the laptop didn't come with any cds, i will check tommorow just in case.

Have a good sleep, we will be here tomorrow, if help is needed.

Use a startup repair CD. You may have to try up to 3 times, for a full MBR repair.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html?ltr=C

Select Start Up repair

If you have problems using the repair CD, use the CMD prompt and enter
bootrec.ese /fixboot
and enter
then
bootrec.exe /fixmbr

And press enter,

Now try and boot into Windows

If all fails, then we may have to fix, but you may lose your documents etc. From your prior posts, losing your doucments is possible. I just want to be sure that these methods do not work.

I cann't even boot to Command Prompt, goes to the same blue screen error.Unless there is any other way to do it?

As to the cd, i downloaded the 32 bit and put in on the laptop, clicked repair windows but windows won't come up on the list and wants me to browse for it, could that mean the laptop is 64 bit? I still have this gutt feeling that the laptop is 32 bit but even on the label of Windows it only says Windows vista home premium with codes so I can't be sure lol.

I have a slight feeling that it might be a RAM problem as whenever i boot from a large cd ( such as this one and my recovery cds) it would take forever to load them.

While browsing the files in my computer from the cd, "4" hardrives came up:
Local Disk (C:) when i clicked properties - it was empty
Data (D:) 128GB free of 131GB
WinRE (F:) 4.16 gb free of 8.78gb
Boot (X:)
31.2 Mb free of 33.6 mb

I'm kind of confused what to do now :/

Edit: saw your edited post - Yep thats how i tried to acces command prompt - didn't work. CD boots slowly but fine, just got confused what to do after wards.

I have another idea, but you will lose all your documents, etc. What do you say?

I Miss read the guide and found out you can press next without selecting anything so i will try the cd first and see where that leads to?
It says that it might take over an hour to complete so i will update you when it's done.
Speaking of which - the laptop just randomly shut down right now :O
I think the battery went out of charge :/

Edit: Ok i restarted the repair with the cd and just before that the cd has a option to open a command prompt window so i did the 2 commands you said above and the operation was successful. will update again after the cd finishes.

I think i made matters worse :/

I ran the cd twice, first time it finished and asked for a restart, i did so and ran the test again just to be sure and this time it came up with a log: Everything passed except some error:
"
Root Cause Found:
---------------------------
Unknown BugCheck: Bugcheck 7e. parameters = 0x0000005, 0x806b4eb6
0x88d57804, 0x88d57500
Repair Action: System files Integrity Check And Repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x2
"

Now if i start the computer it goes to

"windows did not shut down successfully. If this was due to the system not responding, or if the system was shut down to protect data, you might be able to recover by choosing one of the safe mode configurations from the menu below:

Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with Command Prompt

Start windows normally."

If when i start up i press F8 continuosly i get the safe mode + other options, i pressed repair and it goes back to the old error: "Windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the case.
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

The worrying thing now is that whenever i press to boot up normally, it loads the microsoft small rectangle thingy with the dots moving and then goes to a black screen with the mouse there and i can't do anything but switch the laptop off.

If i go to safe mode it loads some long list of files and goes to that same black screen with the mouse where i can't do anything.

Sorry for the long and annoying posts, i'm trying to give as much detail as possible as i really want to get the photos back, if it weren't for them, i would have reinstalled the laptop by now.

Cool - Downloading the File right now, will take half an hour as the file is quiet big. The File seems to be able to take stuff from the hardrive which would still be helpful to get most pictures out but some of the picture folders are in the "Desktop" can it copy stuff from Desktop?

My Computer

It gives you access to the OS, you should be able to copy all; but in honesty never had the desktop question before.

YOu can help all. Be sure to tell us in detail about your experience, what you did and what you were not able to do, etc.
