Black Screen, PLEASE help

Hi, im a bit of a noob when it comes to computers but will try to explain my problem the best I can. I have a Sony Vaio laptop which runs with Vista and last night was playing a game when the game froze followed by the computer so I had to force the computer to shut down holding down the power button. When I tried to reboot it asked me to either start in normal mode or in startup recovery, but both options both lead to the loading bar and then a fully black screen (no mouse pointer). I then tried to run in safe mode, of which gave many lines of code but keeps stopping at the same point in which a blue screen flashes for about a second then it restarts itself.

Vista was already built in so I don't have a CD to try other methods of rebooting and I REALLY don't want to restore because their's alot of work related files I need to get back. PLEASE can anyone shed some light on my problem.

Created the recovery CD which took a while loading files but went back to the black screen before I even got the options.

I have the same thing built in which recover system which also goes to a black screen, everysingle option that is seemingly available is ending with a black screen or a automatic reboot.

Is it a problem if you lose your documents, pics etc?

I would really like to retain some of them, especially some University work if that's a possibility.

I go back to uni in a week so haven't really got time to send it away where they will probably wipe it clean anyway.

OK
Every computer comes with at least one way to restore. Some companies offer two. I have a Dell, I have 2 ways
The most common way is that you boot the computer as it boots, you continually press an f key (but which one) qucikly and rapdily and you will be able to restore to factory settings. The way it was when you took it home

The second way is with a CD that came with the computer

Assuming that you do not have the CD, try the first method. Start with f12 and then f11, it is usually one of those. If that does not work, its in your manual. (the manual is in your closet covered with dust, under the shoe boxes). If you cannot find the key. Tell me the name and model of your computer and I will try to find online.

If this works, you have no updates, no anything, its like the day you bought it.
