Solved Vista Aero Disabled Itself?

When I turned on my computer today it seems like Aero disabled itself. When I try re enable it again via Appearance Settings it wouldn't change back - the preview screen just shows a black screen. There were some automatic updates downloaded yesterday - could those be the problem? Anyway, help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Edit: Updating drivers don't seem to have any effect.

Welcome
Make sure that it is enabled
Disable Aero on Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek
Then
The first thing you want to try is go to search
Type device manage
In manager, make sure your grapics driver is up to date
If it is not, update it
If it is, go back with a system restore to about 3 days before the problem
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

Make a full anti virus scan, download and run a full scan with malwarebytes.

I'm pretty sure it's enabled, as it was running fine yesterday... I updated drivers, it didn't help :(

And system restore is turned off...

Make sure that its still enabled. If we assume something and its wrong, we can never fix this.

I'm fairly sure it's still on. When I click the "Window Color and Appearance" option, I don't get the standard window that allows you to adjust the transparency, etc. Instead I get taken straight into the advanced appearance setting window - the window where you can choose between Aero, Basic, Windows Classic, high contrast, etc. The thing is, Aero and Basic still show up as choices, but when I choose them I get a glitchy version of aero with square corners and no transparency effect.

here's a picture of it:

Go to search
Type even viewer and look for errors that conincide with the problem. Use administrative in the left panel
Then uninstall updates, per my above post, if viewer does not help.

Well, I went into event viewer and found a large list of errors. However, each time on boot there were the same errors as from before - I don't see any new errors that might indicate this problem.

I uninstalled the latest update (installed on 3/16, the next latest were 3/8, before the aero issue) it didn't help :(.

Here was the update I uninstalled

I'm running the antivirus scan and SFC scan right now.

When you say go to search and type troubleshoot, do you mean with the search box in the start menu?

Nevermind. The SFC scan fixed the issue. Many thanks!
