Solved Wuauclt.exe Problem

"C:\Windows\system32\wuauclt.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:121f IP:0101 OP:dd 29 ab 3e fb Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

This error has been popping up so much lately and honestly, it's getting on my nerves. :mad:
It comes up every 5 - 15 seconds.

I can't go to Windows Update since it closes within a second and I can't turn off/on Automatic Updates or I'll get this error;

"Windows cannot find;
'shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\10\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81...\pageSettings'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again."

I have also tried the sfc /scannow service and it has said;

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

However when I go to the log to check it out it says "Access Denied."

I have no idea what else to do and my mom thinks that I should just restore my laptop to factory settings and just start over, haha.

Can anyone help? Please and thank you for your time.
Also, I'm deeply sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Welcome
Start with a full anti virus scan. Download and run malwarebytes for a full scan.
If negative, post back. A virus can take any name, but in this case that is the name of a component of Windows Update. We will aim our actions in that area in lieu of virus problems if appropriate.
The first thing to try if the scans are negative is to read this tutorial and follow its instructions

Thank you for the response, Richc46.
I have ran the scan and my laptop is clean of viruses and everything, which is good.
I also decided to run Fix It and got this;

"Windows Update components must be repaired: Fixed"

Then I looked at the information;

"Windows Update components must be repaired: Fixed
Repair Windows Update components: Succeeded

Issues checked;
Default Windows Update data locations have changed: Checked."

Everything says "Fixed" and "Checked".

However the problem hasn't been solved.

I'm working on the first option and I'm having a bit of trouble with Step 3;

"Delete the qmgr*.dat files. To do this, type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat" "

Every time I try to enter it into the command prompt, it says that it cannot find the file/cannot find the find the path specified.

Yes, sir.
I've entered it how it's posted yet it's just not found.
I have went onto the second option but it brought back the problem so I went to turn off the Update again. Hopefully I can figure something out.

Sorry for slow responses, I'm trying to figure this out. (:

Alright, sorry for the delay.
I've been working on trying to extract files from my disk but I'm completely stuck.

As Step 8 says "8. Each numbered folder is a different edition of Vista. They will vary depending on what type of Vista installation DVD you have. To see what edition is for each numbered folder, select the 1.xml file and click on the Extract button on the toolbar. (See screenshots below)"

The problem is.. is that I don't see any numbered folder and I don't see the 1.xml file.
I have attached the sfcdetails since I'm lost on what it all means, haha.
I will also attached screenshots of 7-Zip as how it is.

I was advised that the information that you have provided us indicates that you only have the one edition of Vista on the DVD. You can extract from where you are. You must be using an OEM copy or ISO.
