A challenge for me,

Hello,

I am about to install Windows XP over Vista OS, now, about the drivers? what should I do here?. I watched several videos on Youtube but really didnt catch it all on the drivers deal. I have the Vista system if I need to re-install just in case.

However, I guess the measures to be able to re-install Windows XP will take some effort but if I wipe out Vista, wont the drivers be on the Windows XP disk period? how do I know to find them presently if I need to choose them from the XP CD? My hope is once I get past the bull and try to install the XP CD that the drivers will be on Windows XP.

I had many issues with DEP with Vista and older programs in MS, so I re-installed vista only to find no more DEP issues but now the older programs wont run anyway. Its on account of the certificates no longer being valid is my guess and how does this happen? especially when all the old programs from MS worked when I first bought this machine, well here is my suspicion, the updates disabled the older programs so Microsoft forces you to buy their new stuff, I'm sorry its what I believe. Never had any issues, I only wished I would have chosen to install what I wanted from the fresh install of Vista but then again too many to select from to stop the culprit from happening again.

HP G60 Notebook HP 32 bit, service pack 1 memory 3.00. Processor> Pentium (R) Dual Core CPU processor

I think I have a better chance to run my older programs on the XP according to archives I have visited and would like to challenge this and see if it works. I can make sure the mode is set in the properties for Windows XP. Well, ??? I dont want to freak out in the process, I need my balls lined up before I can pitch them or have no pc..

Thank you

My Computer

Well let me come back at ya..

I still am not sure about the drivers, I am not sure what to look for at the HP site, I did find URL left in here I clked on but not sure what I am looking for, I saw Vista 64 bit then the other choice was Windows Vista so I am thinking that is the 32 bit to choose from not sure. Do I download and install the drivers on my Windows Vista first? then try to re-install the XP CD Edition I have? I also found this for later if need be..

Well I'm trying something different.

I clicked on a URL here and found the HP driver site, I only saw Windows vista 64 then Windows Vista, so I am assuming the other is the 32 bit. I'm not sure of my steps here, to download the needed drivers onto the Vista machine and then try to install XP Edition? I am not good with the entire save it all on a disk operation when it comes to backing up things like drivers.

I did find the info below in case of a further set back, but it appears there will be quite a few. Its just the drivers thingy that has me aloof. I'm not sure of the megabytes if I even have enough, dont know how to determine that exactly only because the recovery disk has more than my actual OS with Vista, 10 Gb and I guess if that gets wiped out for a clean install then I have enough space. This vista is just depressing. It's slow, always has issues, is always seems to be telling me what I cannot do and I never had those silly issues in Windows XP. I know its not a quick fix and I have prepared myself for that, but it would be a good one once its up and running.

Below is a back up possibility once the system is installed and still too many issues being debated.

That error tends to happen because you have a SATA hard drive and XP doesn't support SATA natively. I've heard of two solutions for this. You can change your BIOS hard drive setting to IDE or BOTH. Or you can slipstream a SATA driver into your XP install. Try searching google for your model number and "downgrade to XP" or the error message you get, and you'll likely find steps on what you can do with your specific PC

Thanks ahead of time, its all nuts

Hi Jadely.

As for your drivers, create a back-up of them using this tool.

Driver Genius Professional Edition - Backup, restore and update all your drivers easily

Then, once you get the netbook booted up on XP, go to your device manager and look for the errors/trees; and click "Update Driver" and "Search for driver on my computer", then browse and select the folder with your backup drivers.

&

You will only need about 2-3gb for XP, considering that the installation itself is ~700mb.

Hey Windows...

Thank you for your reply,..well uhm if this is a free be version good deal, but I'm not going to invest any money when I may be able to skate a free path here, I just dont have it in the old pocketbook right now, but thank you. I'm afraid to download the recommeded program because when you need it the most your availability will be limited and I dont want to chance that.

I will check out your tutorial, it looks a bit over my head but still interesting.

Thank you again!

Hi Jadelyn.

Its one of those programs that ask for a payment after the '15 day trial', but the "Driver Backup" part of it is free to use.

Ok, Windows...

Still a bit edgy about the entire thing but I can't see why it wouldnt work but then again, for me, that would be the case.

Hey thank you on this...

And, I do have Drivers and Utilities Resource CD but thats from a Dell machine and this is an HP, I dont think it will even read the CD, I wouldnt know what to do with it anyway, Ya I have alot of older Cd's here that may do the trick, I'm just not savvy on that part of things..

Oh boy, what fun!

My Computer

I'm sure that it will read the CD, but it will not work the way its supposed to.

Don't use older CD's not meant for the computer, as the drivers will be outdated and might not work well.

Hey Thanks on this Windows..

Its a darn shame it has to come to this, I am trying to redo the permissions in a PIP.exe file to see if I will get lucky but after reading all the submissions from archive to archive on MS Picture It, there is no hope as far as that file. I also read that the drive may render useless, that bothers me too. I'm going to annoy myself some more with Vista, this is a drag. Here I had 2 other machines that ran Windows XP smoothly, they are gone and I am stuck with this. Oh well. I have nothing to lose but to torture myself a little more, AAAAAHHHH!!!, life is good! LOL

Thanks Windows

Have you tried the programs that used to run in Vista in Xp compatibility mode? You don't say what happens when you try to run any of them. I don't think that Microsoft issues updates that changes the compatibily of programs (wow, am I trusting).

Hey Wither..

Yes, I have went into the properties and tried all the modes in which I have a choice to use, none of them worked, I even tried to change permissions and nothing. I have found on the net that is a re-occurring situation with many others and shame on Microsoft for doing that to people after they have paid for these programs like myself. I tend to believe it was a culprit in the form of an update due to Microsoft wanting to promote their newer programs, thus not allowing the older ones to work in Vista with no forewarning, otherwise how did it work for 2 years for me then poof nothing. I dont know, I dont put it past them, maybe its not MS thats the issue but until I found many others with the same problem, I scratched my head and said, well, who knows, something, nothing, nothing, something. Not sure.

Tell us one of the programs that won't run. What happens when you try to run it (error messages, etc.)?

Have you tried running them as the administrator?

Hello Wither..

I thought I answered the post on running in the Windows compatibility mode, yes, I tried all of them, yes I did the administrative privileges, nope, nothing. Here is the message: aslo I searched desperatley for the GTV.DLL file on line thinking that would patch it but nothing.

Yes, compatibility mode doesn't always work.

I will look into that GTV.DLL and see for a fix.

Well thank you kindly Windows,

I think at this point that too will be obsolete, I think its MS doing their performing arts in dismembering their programs to make sure people will buy newer ones, Picture it if phenomenal and I need it right now to resize and shape picture, I have several other programs for this but they too are not behaving so its becoming a manual challenge for me to get things right. Oh well, I'm learning new things, LOL..

Hey Jadelyn, try this for me. Open up your command prompt.

a. Click Start and type cmd in start serach. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
b. Type "regsvr32 GTV.dll" without the quotes and Press Enter.
c. Restart your computer and check.

If still you are facing the issue, then you can try running a System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer which will replace the missing or corrupt files & check if the issue persists.

Open up the CMD prompt again, and type

sfc /scannow

[press enter and continue from there.]

Hey Thank you on this..

Ya one guy said it was the permissions with certficates that they were no longer useful and or outdated and unable to be usable. I'm going to this link, I cannot figure out how to trouble shoot from that CD if its already loaded onto the computer, I dont remember that being an option with the installation, but maybe he is on to something, ok, going to jump over to that URL, thank you Wither..

Wither...

Do you remember the name of the man that said that? and yes I was here in this archive already but dont see exactly what you are saying here? I can't open any project because the program shuts down period.

thank you

Also, heres a quick idea. Go to the DEP (Data Execution Prevention DEP, and add Picture It 2001.

You can find at these settings: "Control Panel" -> "System" -> "Advanced" -> "Performance" -> "Settings" -> "Data Execution Prevention".

The check box should be with "All Programs", add Picture It 2001 to the exceptions added.
To do this go to the bottom "Add" button and select the Picture It 2001 executable in the installation directory.
