System Restore turns itself off

It seldom has happened before, but of late it's happening more often. What's the cause? What's the cure?

It is very possible that a sophisticated virus or malware is responsible, in an attemp to protect itself. Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes.

If negative, return for further information.

No malwares detected by both MSE and MBAM.

It seems to be triggered by my prolonged tweakings trying to re-install HP Quickplay and make it work.

BTW...dunno if there was a connection, but HP QP also suddenly stopped working...all by itself.

You made the scan prior to this thread?
If no, you did not do a full scan
If yes, go to event viewer and look for possible reasons.

type event viewer
go to adminsitrative
Look for errors or critical, about the time of the problem.

I scanned twice...one after another..with MBAM and MSE right after it turned off the second time yesterday.

I am not skilled enough to read and interpret event viewer. And I do not know how to snap shot either.

Last time I saw BSOD was months ago right after sudden crashings which turned out to be caused by a Trojan.

These current SR disappearing acts have been without any noticeable problems with my PC's performance...unless the disappearance of Quickplay was related. BTW, I have restored QP to a version much better than the one that disappeared(by itself)...and so far the SR still has just one restore point, the very same one I created yesterday.

Because it gives much more information than just BSOD.

BTW, I always shut off PC right away when BSOD presented itself. Is this wrong? Should I let it complete the dumping stuff?

You should let it complete the cycle.

It's worse now. This whole week, SR shuts off everyday. Other than this, my system seems excellent.

I have no malwares. Last week I re-programmed task scheduler to once-a-week restore point creation. I have, for years, minimized SR max allotted space to 3 GB (per tutorial instruction from Brinks)which allows no more than 4 restore points. For some reason, recently I have been seeing only one Restore point(never happened before). Does weekly schedule discontinue event triggered restore point creation?

So...I am really lost on what might be causing this frequentr disappearing act. I am suspecting CCleaner which I utilize daily (I clean before shutting off at bedtime. Thing is, I've been doing this cleaning routine for many years without a hitch...until of late, with this SR problem).

I will now try to not use CCleaner. See what happens.

I recently had a problem that caused me to consistently lose my restore points. Finally, it was found to be caused by a bad hard drive. Go to the website of your hard drive manufactuer and test the drive.

I ran all system diagnostics including full(not quick) HD test and all passed...without a hitch. So ..I will try crystaldiskinfo.

But... were you able to fix your HD? Is your SR fixed?

I used crystal disc and it indicated that I had bad sections on my HD, I reinstalled (in my case Seven), the bad section is no longer affecting me. I still have the bad sections, but it is not in use, so I no longer have the SR problem.
If you passed the diagnostics Crystal will not give any new information.
Go to search by the start button, type event viewer, go to administrative look for anything that indicates restore point problems.
