HELP!!! No printer will work with my Vista Laptop even thou its online

I have tried 2 different printers with my laptop and still no joy. I've uninstalled and reinstalled etc, refreshed printer spooler too.

My canon printer when plugged in is recognised goes online but when I try to print a box pops up after about a minute saying check the printer etc.

the hp printer which also it connected with USB straight into laptop won't even print a test page same as the canon although they both will manually copy and print documents if not going through my laptop.

i have a karaoke song list I need to print but the software is only licensed to my laptop and need it to be printed out asap

please help

Did either printer come with an installation disc. They normally do. You probably don't have a driver or the correct driver for your printers.

Hi, I've tried setting both as the default printer, canon first no joy, then the brand new hp I just bought. I'm absolutely sure something on my laptop is blocking it from working but I don't know what. I only use windows security and real time protection etc

If anyone is available to do a remote assistance with me to fix this issue I would appreciate it.

Do the printers work with other computers?
If they do uninstall all of them, boot. Connect one printer, they try to boot the computer.
If this does not work, possibly you have to install in compatibilty mode.

Hi, yes printers work on other computers.

I have uninstalled and restarted then used the cd that came with printer plus checked it was up to date. When u goto printer jobs they are in the queue but status says error printing.

What is compatibility mode?

Okay, we've established that the laptop is recognizing both of the printers.

Have you tried printing from a program other than the one you need to print from? For example, do you have a program such as Word? Can you print from that?

What is the format of the file you want to print out? What is the software? If you look under File\Print setup, what is shown?

hi, I've tried printing several files from different program's;
A photo from my pictures in windows explorer
a spreadsheet from office
a document thru office
a test print thru the hp software

the song list I am trying to print is thru a program called pcdj karaoki, but I just get error printing with the hp and with the canon I get check the leads and turn printer off and back on.

both printers work with my desktop pc, but the karaoki software is only license to my laptop.

Oh both the printers are in the printers folder on laptop and shows online and default if I set it as default. I've checked device manager and there's no errors in there. Restarted the print spooler thingy but still nothing. I did a virus scan a full one that took several hours and it found nothing. I've used ccleanup too.

please help

I'll ask a dumb question. Do you have power to the printer plugged in? Don't be insulted.

Can you run a test print by pushing a button on the printer itself? What is the model number for your HP printer.

When you try to print from Excel, I assume the standard HP dialogue box pops up. Under Printer, it should show where the printer is- for example USB001. Does it show that?View attachment 27715

Yes there is power it will scan and copy if I push the button on the printer itself.
It says USB 001 in printer properties. It also says on my laptop device is ready and working properly

Normally, when you install a printer, it asks you to connect the printer during the installation process. Did that happen and did you connect your printer (with power) at that time?

Do you have the Hp Solution Center on your desktop? If so, when you open it, select settings. Click on Printer Toolbox. Then select Print a Diagnostic Page. Does that work?

You didn't say which model you have. It sounds like it's an all-in-one. Is it set for printing or scanning or copying?

Also, do you have more than one USB port? Can you try another one if the answer is yes.

Sorry I am out at the mo but I know the printer is an all in one scanner copier printer. I had it print a diagnostic page and a alignment page then scanned it no prob at all.

i have 3 USB ports on laptop it's an acer make, i tried all 3 ports. It's not the USB lead as I connected it with the same lead to my desktop and it worked.

Where do you choose to set it to print? Scan? Or copy? I have not seen that option?

thanks for all the help this is frustrating the life out of me. I'm sure it's not worked since a windows update but I don't know which

If you know when the problem happened, just go back with system restore.

I tried a system restore but had no joy as there's been loads of updates.

I could try again but it will only let me restore to a few dates that are all recent and this problem has been going on quite a while hence me buying another printer as I thought it would work. Was I wrong , doh

My Computer

When you look a the restore dates, do you see at the bottom left a box? The box should be checked to see more dates.

If you were able to print a diagnostic page and do a head alignment from the HP solution center or whatever it's called on your desktop, then the printer is getting signals through the cable.

This leaves us at why an application can't address the printer. If you go back to Start\Settings\printers, right click on the HP printer (I assume it has the green checkmark identifying it as the default) and select troubleshoot. Does that tell you anything?

Also, what other printers are shown in the above page?

Please tell me what the model number is for your printer.

Hi, the hp model is hp2510 and the canon is mp252.

I will try my laptop again Monday afternoon and write back with any new findings, from my last attempt I could set either the canon or hp as my default, either one would show online also.

Ive tried the "fix" windows thingy too but no help.

I will do the troubleshoot again and copy exactly what it says for you guys.

Thanks again for all the help.
