Did a Memory change and I all I get is a blue screen

Hi im am new here also I got to this site by searching for info on my Dell XPS 420 and Richc46 was the person in the forum who was helping. And i don't see how to contact certain people on here. So my problem is I tried to change my memory and it did not work so I put my old memory back in and did not work, it ask to start windows normally and blue screens so quick that you cant see the message, all diagnostics are good and recovery disk wont fix the problem. I was told that if I do a reinstall that I can save my Doc's if I don't format the drive but will it save my pic's? Or is there something else i can do without doing a reinstall ? I was also going to buy a universal drive adapter to transfer my files to another computer but if its something in the drive it self would it work by doing it that way?

Hello Destinie04,

In addition to what Richard has said, I would request you to help us with few details to provide you the correct resolution.
-- Do you get any stop error code? If yes, please help me with that.
In case you don’t get the stop error code, please restart the computer; keep tapping F8 on the Dell logo screen and once you are on the Advanced Boot Options, Select Disable Automatic Restart and check for the Stop Error Code.

-- Please check if you are able to boot from Safe Mode with Networking.
From the Advance Boot Options select Safe Mode with Networking and check if the computer is booting to windows.

Please write back with results, would be glad to assist youfurther.

This isn't an OS thing specifically.

I would double check all your cables are properly plugged in, both power and data cable.

Very good chance you bumped one doing the ram swap.

As a test, get a livecd like Ubuntu or even memtest to see if you boot to them. Its the best way to eliminate hardware issues.

How many memory slots do you have? Which slots did you put the sticks into? Generally, if you have four slots and two sticks, you would put one into slot 1 and the other into slot 3.

OK at first i had a 750gig hd when i got this computer last year 6months later the hard drive went, I have a xps 600 that I took the 1tb hd out of it and have been using it in the 420. So I took the hard drive out and put it back in the other computer and its doing the exact same thing and the same codes. so apparently its the hard drive so is there something i can do without reinstalling the os or if i do will it save my pics as it would the documents.

You can attack gthe drive with the cables and use it as a secondary hard drive. The just copy paste your stuff to the other drive.

I'd double check in the bios the other computers drive is set as the first boot before booting to the OS.
