Visual studio 2005 in 64-bit vista

hi folks,

I have a vista home pre 64 bit os. I tried to install visual studio 2005 standard edition but i am unable to install as visual studio 2005 is 32-bit supported and my os is 64-bit. Please help overcome this problem.

If you have Standard Version 8, it should work. Microsoft says that it is compatible.

Isnt standard version 8 and 2005 the same??

The messabe is:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running.Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher

Do you get the message every time you try to install, or when you try to use it?

Yes, you are ok with 8, same as 2005, but I was trying to be sure I knew what you had.

I get this message when i click the setup icon and i cant install the software

It seems that you have to get an update for Vista . Read this:

I dont quite understand.... how can i install Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista before even installing visual studio 2005?

I am still searching, but you should install the service pack after the installation.

One possiblity is that the DVD is bad. It really should install.

It seems i have a similar problem. But the person in this thread was able to install vs2005 but i am not able to. In the 3rd post it says something about 'copying the files from the DVD'. Where to copy the files to?

To be honest, I'd be guessing about where to copy the files to. Sorry.
I found this maybe it will help you out. Also have you tried Run as Administator?

Or how about turning off UAC, there seems to be a few suggestions to try that in some of the searches I've done.

I did so and i got this message:

Windows cannot find 'G:\setup.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
