GF8800GT XXX vs GF9600GT XXX

Hey guys,

Can somebody tell me why an 8800 GT XXX is more expensive than a 9600 GT XXX? (see snip)
Also does anyone have a good recommendation for a graphics card (nvidia)? I was going for the GF8800GT alpha dog ed. from XFX first, but I built it in my granddad's new pc two days ago and it's really Noisy! Not more than $250 please For the record I have a geforce 6600 now and not happy with its performance...

Greetings,

Amplid

Re: GF8800GT XXX vs GF9600GT XXX

First of all, the 8800GT is a better card than the 9600GT. Even though it's been out for a couple of months already, the 8800GT is still a good, solid buy and that's the card I would recommend. I understand the noisy part because my 8800GT has the stock fan on it, but many companies have already built their own fans for the card. They provide better cooling and less noise.
Check this one out for example: MSI 8800GT 512Mb OC

Re: GF8800GT XXX vs GF9600GT XXX

let me say the 8800GT will destroy the 9600GT graphically

2x 9600s in SLI & then maybe they can be compared...

may i tempt you with one of these ..

dual slot cooler = quieter fan & cooler card

I find this difficult to understand because doesn't a higher number generally mean better? Or is this not the case? That's indeed a nice one act skunksmash Is that you who is selling? I'll definitely reconsider the 8800GT Spd2last, thanks.
This is a cool section, way cooler than general discussion:d

Both ATI and NVIDIA have their own screwing naming systems. In general, though, each company has a low-end, mid-end and high-end line.

For nVidia, anything "x000" - "x200" is low-end. Anything "x500" or "x600" is mid-end. And, anything "x800" or "x900" is high-end.

So, when you compare the cards, you don't compare the generation (ie. 6xxx, 7xxx, 8xxx, 9xxx), but you compare the mid-range of one generation against the mid-range of the next generation.

In this case, the comparison would be between 8600 and 9600.

Generally speaking, the previous generation's high-end will still out-perform the next generation's mid-end. If you want to beat an 8800, you'd need to pop for a 9800 or whatever.

It's not entirely logical. But that's marketing for you.

ok......

easy way to tell ''G80'' from ''G92'' is the on board ram

G80 = 768MB or 320MB or 640MB

G92 = 256MB or 512MB or 1GB
