| Vista Home premium 64bit | computer connecting to local only Ok, so the internet works fine on all the laptops in the house(macs)...but the desktop(hp pavillion m9040 running vista home premium) is not connecting to the internet...it says that it is connected to the network but it has local access only...when i run a diagnose and repair it comes up with a message that says "there might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer" it gives me the options (1) "plug a cable into the network adapter local area connection" (2)"move the computer to a different location..." (im pretty sure this isnt the problem because the computer is right next to the router (linksys wireless g) and (3) "automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter wireless area connection" If anyone knows how to fix this problem....i would greatly appreciate it Thanks |

| Xp-Vista-7 | Re: computer connecting to local only I think i might know what the problem is. I have had similar problems for a few weeks now on my Dell computer (Brand New). If you can understand whats below then go ahead and do so but, if not find someone who does... 1st Disable all adapters. (Do this by going to Network & Sharing Center then click on Manage Network Connections). 2nd Re-enable wireless adapter only. 3rd Go to Network & sharing center 4th Click on Manage Wireless Networks 5Th Highlite your adapter and remove (close page). 6th Back to Network & Sharing Center click on connect to a network. 7th Connect to your Network. Then you should see that your connected to the internet. But... When you try to re-enable LAN adapter you may have the same problem as i have which is that, it automatically tries to connect to a Network and then for some reason which i know not of, it locks out the internet. So in my case i leave the adapter disabled. Best of luck and i hope someone may find a solution to our problem. |

| Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit / Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit | Re: computer connecting to local only I take it then you are connecting via wireless, have you tried connecting with an Ethernet cable from your computer to the router ? Have you tried to re-boot the router to see if that clears the problem up ? |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | internet connection issues I have a custom built Dell computer tower, with Vista Home Premium x64. I had internet connection issues from the time I took it out of the box. I have a cable 10 MBps internet connection. The connection was slow or didn't want to connect or didn't like my email program. I had some luck connecting with a router. After 3-1/2 weeks, and hours and hours of frustration and the help of several Dell technicians, we discovered the problem - Dell Remote Access. This is a new program Dell has recently started to load on it's computers. Whether Vista didn't like it or whatever, the minute we removed the program, the problem disappeared like it had never been there and my computer is running like a dream. I just wanted to save someone else the frustration. |

| windows vista | Re: computer connecting to local only open internet explorer, goto tools, internet options, check Do not connect with a dial up connection, than click on LAN Settings, and check Auto Config lan settings (something to this nature) probably isnt your problem, but its worth a shot if trax1963s post doesnt help. |
