| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Can't see or access XP computer from Vista computers Excuse if this is posted somewhere on here already but I have spent nearly 3 hours reading threads here and in other forums trying to find a solution to my problem. I see that many have a similiar issue but also seem to have small details that differ from my problem. I have tried many different avenues but as I said I have yet to find any solution. We have our network setup so that we can see and access all the machines in the home network even including two game counsels but we cannot see the one machine in the house that runs on Windows XP. It is the only one that is hardwired to the router. All the machines are visible in the workgroup on the XP machine but is not seen on any of the Vista machines. When I doubleclick the other machines in the workgroup from the one running Windows XP the user name and password key appears but one of the other Vista machines says "The network path was not found." That probably has to do with the firewall correct? What I'm trying to get accomplished here is to be able to see the XP machine on all the other computers and be able to access it from the Vista machines. What is the next step to try and get this resolved? Any help would be greatly appreciated as spending all this time on it and getting nowhere is a bit frustrating. |

| Vista x32 Home Premium | Re: Can't see or access XP computer from Vista computers My problem is similar and and not solved. Here is the logic problem / challenge that I have not been able to solve. I have 5 machines in a workgroup. They all talk properly to one another with the following exception - two machines will not share even though they are visible to each other in the workgroup. I have two routers, a wired router and a wireless router. Two machines use the wired router, 3 use the wireless. All machines are on the same named workgroup and all can see the entire workgroup collection of 5 machines. Of the two machines unable to share, one is running Vista Home Premium and using the wireless router and the other is running XP Pro and using the wired router. A second machine on the wired router is able to see the Vista machine and its shares and vice versa. It is hard to decide where the problem lies. Communication from the second machine on the wired router to the Vista machine on the wireless would seem to clearly indicate that the problem is with the XP machine on the wired router that will not share or see shares on the Vista machine. Yet, that same XP machine on the wired router is able to see and share both ways with all other machines. I see no difference between the two machines on the wired router; one that will share with Vista and one that will not. And, Vista shares with the first also but not the second. If you can follow any of this and are making some kind of a mind map I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks |

| Vista bussiness 32 and xp pro sp2 | Re: Can't see or access XP computer from Vista computers I have a laptop running vista bussiness 32 and a desktop with xp pro sp2. They working through a dlink switch. Everything worked fine and I couldn't share and print to either one of the two and see the other pc on the network. I then added a dsl router to the network. Both can connect to the internet through the network but the xp computer can see the vista computer but vista can't see the xp computer anymore. I've now tried everything I know. I can ping both ways without a problem using the IP or the name. I'm running AVG antivirus on both and windows firewall is used in both cases. |

| Vista bussiness 32 and xp pro sp2 | Re: Can't see or access XP computer from Vista computers I have tried everything that was suggested. The xp machine in question already has sp3 installed and when trying to install lltd it said that its not necessary with sp3 for xp. No other firewall is installed other than windows firewall and only using avg free edition. Also the network is connected to an adsl router via the dlink switch and both computers can connect to internet, no problem, and as I said from the xp computer I can see the vista computer and access shares and printers, just not the other way around. Funny thing is I have the same network at a few clients where everything works fine, worst of all those xp machines all run sp2 without lltd installed and I can see all the xp machines from the vista laptop and access shares, printers etc. |
