Crazy Motherboard?

I have the GA-X38-DS4.
FOR A CERTAIN KIND OF WEIRD REASON MY MOTHERBOARD, DOES NOT ACCEPT OTHER MEMORY RAM EXCEPT 4GB 2x2GB Kingston 800MHZ DDR2-NON-ECC CL5 DIMM (KVR800D2N5/2G) http://www.directron.com/kvr800d2n52g.html

I insert\install 4GB of Crucial Ballistix Dual Channel 1024MB PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz Memory (4 x 1024MB)Canadian Prices: Crucial Technology - Crucial Ballistix Dual Channel 2048MB PC8500 DDR2... - BL2KIT12864AA1065 and after few days i get BSOD and continues restart.>

I insert\install 4GB of Corsair XMS2 Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 4GB 2X2GB PC2-8500 DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Memory Kit Corsair XMS2 Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 4GB 2X2GB PC2-8500 DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Memory Kit: TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF and after few days i get BSOD and continues restart.>

So i insert\install back the 4GB 2x2GB Kingston 800MHZ DDR2-NON-ECC CL5 DIMM (KVR800D2N5/2G) http://www.directron.com/kvr800d2n52g.html
AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE

Am i doing anything wrong?Do i miss something?I must change anything in bios settings of my GA-X38-DS4?

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

Hello panais,
Take a look at the voltage settings in the Bios and set it to the memory manufacturers recommended voltage.
Also, is the memory your using on the manufacturers QVL ?.
Hope this helps and post your results.

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

I have never had a GIGABYTE board so I'm not familiar with their options, if you go in to the Bios you will see options for adjusting the voltages on the CPU, Memory, and other things, highlight the memory option and it will either have a drop down box or the option to adjust it using the plus or minus keys, set it to the required Voltage and save settings.
You should find these instructions in your MB users guide.

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

(i hope it's labeled the same; i have an amd gigabyte board )

in bios, go to motherboard intelligent tweaker and look for settings for dram voltage (near the bottom of the page), disable the auto voltage setting, then set the voltage to what's stated on the the ram. if you need to, go to the dram timings setting and disable auto timings (somewhere in the middle of the page), then set your timings as needed (5-5-5-15-24-2T -- probably)

(gotta take my daughter to school, but when i get back, i'll snap some pics of the bios page and post them to see if it helps )

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

here's the pics... hope it helps.

(oh, and i just checked you system specs... i don't know if intel boards bear this "problem"(?), but wanted to let you know of a potential problem (as i've had with my board). i, like you, have the corsair xms2 1066 ram. whenever i have used 8 gb of ram, i cannot run the ram at 1066 speed. any and every time i try to set the ram at 1066, BSOD. so my 1066 ram is running at 800. the settings on my board relating to ram, as you can see from my pics, are all at AUTO, with the exception of voltage, which i manually set to 2.1)

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

My motherboard has an auto option in ram voltage.
So i set it to auto, and in pc health shows 2.1.
Is better to leave it in auto or set the voltage manualy?
What is ur opinion?

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

I would leave it in auto. If it works leave it alone.

Re: Crazy Motherboard?

well, that depends (on leaving it on auto or not). if your motherboard is automatically setting voltage at 1.8 and you're not stable, then you'd need to take it off of auto and set it manually to 2.1. as i stated above, but maybe was not clear, my ram is set to AUTO, but that pertains to the timings (5-5-5-18-24-2T). i set my system voltage to manual adjustment, but i don't change any settings except to what pertains to ddr2 voltage. in my case, my board defaults to 1.8, so i add +0.300.

there is another way to have to voltage auto set (if your motherboard has the settings for it). i didn't mention it earlier because when i use it on my board, i blue screen. but, you can set all of your timings to auto and your ddr2 voltage to auto. if you have EPP (Enhanced Performance Profile) you can set your EPP to match your ram.

in the pic, you can see (near the middle) jedec #1, jedec #2, and epp #1. even though my ram is rated at 1066, with 8 gigs, i can only run it at 800. my ram profile corresponds to jedec #2 (400mhz dual data rate=800mhz). i can manually set my ram in my bios or i go the easy way (but it doesn't work for me) and set my ram to epp #1, which corresponds to 1066mhz (533mhz dual data rate). on my board, though, it is set to jedec#2, but i manually set the ram voltage to 2.1, instead of letting it auto-set to 1.8.
