Xbox 360 media extender looking for video files

Good day,

I currently have a pretty nice setup using my xbox360 as a media center extender -- I download movies to my computer in the office and through the home network I play them on my den's TV through the 360 (using the computer as the decoder).

Here is my issue: when I first got this computer about a year ago I made my 150G Raptor the C: drive and I put all my media files on my 1TB drive. Made perfect sense to have the fast HD for OS and applications and put media files on the large HD. Unfortunately when I did this, the Xbox could only look in the c:\users\mike\video folder to find my videos so all my movies on the 1TB D: drive were unaccessible.

Since that was an issue, I reinstalled Vista on the 1TB HD making that my C: drive and haven't had problems since. I'm about to do some computer maintenance anyway and would love to go back to my original set up with the Raptor holding my OS, does anybody know if MS has fixed this issue, or am I stuck searching for videos on the C:\users\mike\videos folder?

Thanks

Hi, on your original setup did you try relocating your user directory?

Right click on the Videos folder and click on the location tab this will allow you to redirect to the large drive.

on my own setup I have all my user folders on a separate partition and point the folders there so for example c:\users\username\downloads actually points to D:\downloads

vista uses a system of junction points for other system type directories which can all be relocated if required - the user folders are the only ones where it is a simple thing to do though

hope this helps

I had no idea you could do this. So the 360 will still look at c:\users\mike\videos but vista will redirect the 360 into D:\videos?

LOL, this reply would have saved me hours of frustration a year ago :) plus a year's worth of frustration over barely using my Raptor HD and almost exclusively using the slower 1TB jobber which I'm pretty sure doesn't work quite right anyway.

Thanks.
