Vista - could not install any softwares

I'm new to this forum. I'm having a desktop with vista business 32 bit. today i tried o install a software, it was interupted and it gives an error message as windows installer could not be accessed.

Does the Vista have SP1? If not there was a tool on MS site called something like Windows Installer Cleanup Tool. My issue was I would run certain programs and it would ask me if I wanted to install them(they were already installed but Windows installer was messed around.)

Just google for that cleanup tool if you don't have SP1.

My computer is came with sp1. i tried installer cleanup utility.
Tried Registering installer
tried sfc /scannow
one more thing I'm trying to install power dvd. this is the first time i"m trying to install it.

Type ipconfig /all , services.msc in command prompt.

And let me know the result.

'ipconfig /all' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
this is the reply for both.

My guess is correct. Some programs will call installer through command line. If command prompt cannot access the installer, u will receive that error msg. I experienced the same a month before.

Go to this thread follow the screen shots and paste the following in path variable value


%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\.
