Way to run cardfile.exe under Vista x64

I admit it...I'm a dinosaur. I still love and use WFWG 3.11 cardfile.exe on my Win XP machine at work. Several reasons why, really. One of the most important is that we're locked out from adding apps and it's executable from the .exe file without installation. That's why I haven't moved up to something like azzCardfile which requires installation.

But the other reason is that it just works! Does what I need without unnecessary bells and whistles.

Here's my problem. My new home machine is Vista x64 and I've been unable to find a way to get cardfile.exe to run. Tried various compatibility mode options to no avail.

Does anyone know of a way to get the old reliable cardfile.exe to run in the new 64 bit Vista environment?

Not on 64bit, but what about running a VM xp machine that would run it.

As I noted, I'm locked out from installing apps on my work machine and I believe azzCardfile requires installation. MS cardfile.exe runs on my work PC without installation. I want to be able to use the same files at home and work.

Thanks for the recommendation zigzag.

That's sounds a bit complicated to run one program, but I'll look into it. I've never run a virtual machine before so it would probably be good experience.

Im assuming you tried running cardfile in compatibility mode, right?

As I noted in my orig post, I tried several compatibility mode settings without success.

If you're locked out from installing aps on your work machine, you would be locked out from installing a virtual computer.

One suggestion is to speak with your IT person and ask permission to install this software. It is meant to replace cardfile and will run on Vista 32 and 64 bit. This is probably the best and easiest solution.

Perfect! It opens .CRD files containing 'pictures' and looks just like the original cardfile - except for wider cards which is irrelevant.
Life suddenly got easier. Great job! Thanks a lot.
