Hi Paldrum,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

First, let's see if we can get it to install in compatibility mode. Here's a tutorial describing the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/75909-compatibility-mode.html. You may need to try several different modes as it's possible only one will work - or that none will work.

If that doesn't work, then go to Windows Explorer and right click on the DVD drive and select Explore. It should show a listing of directories and files on the DVD. Please take a screenshot of this and include it with your next post.

If the DVD includes something like readme.txt and/or setup.ini and/or install.ini and/or helpme.txt (they may not be exact, but perhaps will be similar), please copy these files to the desktop and then zip them all into a folder and attach the zipped folder to your next reply. They may help us determine compatibility and may tell us where or why the problem is happening.

Do you know the exact and precise name and version of the DVD or the maintenance manual (and where it was manufactured or at least exactly what the manual is helping you to maintain which might suggest the site of the manual)? Do you know where you got it and can you provide a link to that website? Perhaps if we can locate it online we can find a version that is compatible with Vista (if that's the issue), find some troubleshooting guidelines to help us (perhaps some other program it requires to be able to run), or perhaps understand why it isn't working (and maybe will never work with Vista or suggest some trick to get it to work).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

To save a lot of time and trouble lets first see if its compatible with Vista. Then try other stuff.

I agree checking the Vista Compatibility Center comes first (if not compatible, that's that {though compatibility mode may still work} - but is it really likely the Vista Compatibility Center will include maintenance manuals for who knows what? I was merely anticipating that the program/manual would not be listed there and providing alternatives for if/when it couldn't be verified using that methodology. There's nothing wrong with providing alternatives in the event that the initial recommendation does not work - in fact, that's the whole point of providing options. I never suggested doing those things instead of or before what was initially recommended in the first post - I assumed that would be tried first.

Most of my suggestions are ways to either confirm compatibility some other way or find a way to overcome compatibility problems as I agree that is going to eventually prove to be the likely cause.

If its there or not, starting with the compatiiblity center is the BEST way to go.

I agree - didn't I just say that? There's nothing wrong with suggesting what to try next in the event that BEST way to start doesn't work.
