Invalid Certificates

I loaded Norton 360 v5 premier on my computer. It worked for 2 days. The computer would not shut down, so did a 3 finger salute. It boots up, but Norton 360 is gone. When I go to open IE9, I get an invalid security certificate screen and advice to not go there (MSN is my homepage) I try to reload Norton but I get invalid certificate error. Norton could not help and feels it is a windows problem. Help!!?

My Computer

Download and make a full malwarebyes scan, with free version

Same with anti virus scan

If not malware, go to computer icon on desktop
right click
properties
Is there a MS validation lower right?

Use this Norton Removal Tool to uninstall Norton and remove all components of Norton.

or this one ....

It must be done or else the " left over " of Norton will create havoc to your computer.

I realize that you have paid for the Norton 360, but, if I were you, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I would rather use one of those free programs such as Avast Free Home Edition, free MSE ( Microsoft Security Essentials ).... just to name 2.

cannot find a desktop computer icon, but if I go to start>computer and right click, then properties, it shows genuine microsoft software with a validation key. I did use Norton Removal Tool (Nortons attempt to get it reloaded) but its still doing the same thing. I will find a D/L for malware and try that.

OK your Windows is valid, now to find the cause of the invalid warning.
I have seen this several times, check the date and day on your computer clock, correct if wrong.

OK means the installer has been removed. Download and use ccleaner to get rid of the junk. Then download and use Microsoft Security Essentials and the Windows Fire Wall and Malwarebytes for protection. Then with Firefox see how your puter works.

Fire fox works fine...no certificate issues. I need to find a program as complete as 360 to use, not sure because there are so many choices! Don't think I'll use Norton again tho:sick:

If your computer is for home use,one the following FREE programs will do the trick.....
( Note : just pick one. Don't install/run 2 AV ( anti-virus ) programs at the same time.

1. Microsoft Security Essentials - it will, by design, disable Windows Defender because it has its own defender. 2 defenders in one machine will create conflicts.

2. Avast free Home Edition - make sure you turn off the e-mail scanning option. Need to re-register every year. Registration is free.

Also install Malwarebytes for "on demand " scanning. It is the best in the business.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer
Note : select the Free version, unless you don't mind buying the " full " version.

" On demand " means - it does not run until you turn it on. You turn it off after it is done scanning. That way, there will be no conflicts between Malwarebytes and the " real time " protection program you have installed.
" Real time " protection means - the program starts to run the moment you turn on the computer. It will keep running until you shut off the computer.

I'm still concerned....I cannot update windows. I downloaded windows security essentials, but it encountered an error and will not install! I am trying a reboot and see if anything changes. Reboot and nothing changes. I tried a system restore, but it would not work. Still having certificate issues.

Hello,Oldnslow welcome,

I be leave you may still have Norton in the registry. I would use Safe Mode w/ networking>use Mozilla FireFox To run (NRT.exe) Norton Rmoval Tool, reboot back to Safe mode w/ Networking>reset Internet Explorer Make sure your Windows Firewall is turned on as well as Windows Defender.
Then choose which Anti Virus you would like, go and download & Save it to your desktop.Reboot to Normal Windows Mode, And try to install your AV.

NOTE: Please follow the Excelent Advice prior to this post to check for infections.
Yo can follow this link to MicroSoft to use the FIX it tool to reset the windows update componets and then re try to to update your PC.>

Tried to install Microsft Security Essentials....encountered an error and would not install. Tried to install AVG security....encountered error and would not install.(note, windows defender would not turn on either) Installed Avast security. It installed and scanned. No Threats found. Windows will still not update.....error code 800b0109. MSN home page brings up certificate problems when IE9 is started. I am wondering if this is a windows file issue now......I'm not sure how to reinstall windows....no disk came with machine. I will try the safe mode reboot tonight when I have more time to sit at the computer. If that does not work, any more suggestions? Also, I used Fix It, but still having the same issues.
