Based upon what I just found, if you press f11 continually and rapidly during boot you will restore to factory specs. That means you lose everything; pics, files, software etc. If you do the factory restore, you will be just like it was when you took it home. To save your stuff you can try this if you cannot save normally.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. Nothing worked, so I reformatted and am now reinstalling windows and a multitude of updates. I'm thinking of manually reinstalling programs rather than from my back up, just in case something in there was corrupt and started all this. What do you think?

I think that you are doing the right thing. After you are up and working, download macrium reflect, its free. Make a copy of your hard drive and update once a month. This way you will not have to reinstall again.

I think there might be a root kit on your PC,If so you can try to unhook the roort Kit with this too "RootRepeal".
Here: rootrepeal Unzip it In the tools Change to RUN> In Kernal Mode With Call Backs>Look for any unknown> high light it(them)>Delete them. You will need to runthis tool after that:
Here> How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)?

You can choose to run it in .exe Or in a .zip, The ".exe" will be updated, The "zip' File will prompt you to update it. When finished you should have cured the issue, If there were hidden root kits from root repeal(In Kernal Mode.
More info here for both:
