hi guys :),

i have this stupid strange problem and i posted in 3-4 other forums about it, no one could me help

i bought this system on 2nd november. just imagine, i spend ~1800$ to buy this pc AND after 17 days, 17 days:shock:......... i still cant get sound out of my onboard sound card!:cry::shock::shock::shock::shock::mad:

the problem is that the ANALOG BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL does not work:sa:

Here are gigabyte tech support's answers to my problem:
"We are really sorry for the inconvenience you have with our product." and " According to your description, a further testing or examination to your system might be required."

today, my supplier tested the motherboard in front of my eyes, and it worked fine THERE:shock:.
they said maybe it is your graphics card's driver (HD 4870) that makes this problem. so i came home, uninstalled the VGA driver and ATI HD Audio driver and.... STILL NO SOUND...

my speakers are fine (i tested them with another pc and with my mp3 player) and i installed the latest drivers for everything...

i dont know what to do:shock:
i also e-mailed Realtek technical support last week, and they didnt answer!!
i asked in 3 or 4 other forums (tomshardware, anandtech, guru3d....) no one could help me:shock:

what should i do? if u need to know anything, please let me know.
and here are some pictures, maybe they can help u to figure out what is wrong with my pc:cry:

OK, I don't know much about ATI but I just read this on some other thread and this may or may not help you.

Since your Video card also comes with HDMI audio, I think your best best is to DISABLE the onboard audio in your Bios and let the Video card with sound take over. It may not work but, at least, is some other solution you can test.

Also, you may have chosen some wrong options on your realtek control panel and this is why the analog is not highlited. Your ATI and Realtek might have some sort of conflict with which one is the master and which one is the slave.

By new start I mean restart the computer after changes. Sometimes before a new start you will not notice any difference.

Yes, assuming that you have front audio output jacks and as you only have stereo speakers hd audio is not so important.
Have a look in the bios and if you have the option to set the front panel audio to AC'97
You may have to set the HD Azalia device to auto or even disable it for this option to appear.
Then try connecting your speakers to the front connectors

Hi Koohi,

Your bios is correct, I have just been to the Gigabyte website and downloaded a copy of the motherboard manual, if you dont have this go here
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Manual_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Manual&FileID=18436
It has a very good and easy to understand explanation of the audio on this board.
I think you should have a look here first as it should be much more help to you than I can be on the other end of an internet connection. Should you still have problems or questions afterwards just write a new entry to this thread and I will get back to you.

Let me know either way it goes

koohi, if disableing your Bios does not work, have you tried disableing the sound on your ATI card? Again, I can't help you more because I have never used ATI, let alone a Video Card with Audio Capabilities.

Although, it appears that what is happening is that your onboard audio is the one with the problems since the speakers are not working but then again, if you say that you don't have external speakers, why the need to plug someting to the back panel? Now, I am confused :(

hi guys :)

pooch, i tried that, it just activate the front panel in "realtek audio manager", but it doesnt help ! no sound from front panel !

the strange thing is, when they tested my mobo, its onboard sound was working great... i guess they are right, i should do something about my graphics card...
the second strange thing is that it seems that i am the only one who have this problem... im sure lots of people have X48 chipsets on their mobo and surely lots of them have ATI graphics card (or cards!!)

why me? :(

AstaLaVista, thanks for ur reply:)... i just know how to disable ATI's sound through device manager, and i did that, it didnt help, no difference. but if there is something like bios setup for VGA, maybe that would make a difference.
i didnt say i "have not" speakers, i have 2.1 "sonic gear-armageddon 5" speakers... sorry im not very good in talking English, maybe i wrote something in a wrong way...

thanks again :)

hi koohi,

I think that I have found the answer, Go to Start, Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and uninstall the realtek drivers the computer will want to do a newstart so let it.
Thats it!! windows will reinstall the driver without the Realtek program and your speakers should work.

Let me know.

Pooch

hi guys

pooch, i tried that... same result !:(

today i went to my supplier again and this time with my whole system... they checked it, and after one hour they said my mobo has a hardware problem...
so they take it for replacing and guess what?! they will give it back in 2 or 3 weeks !!!:sa::eek::shock:

thanks gigabyte !

u know, when u buy a mobo for about 280-290$ u dont expect it to be faulty, and IF it is faulty u dont expect that it would take about 2 or 3 weeks to be replaced! maybe if i was living in USA or EU they would change it in 1 hour or maybe less than an hour... what can i say?! just my bad luck !

but after this, i wont buy ANYTHING from gigabyte... that was my first and last time...

anyways... thanks pooch, i really appreciate ur help:) and thanks astaLaVista for ur help and ur replies:).

and at at last: thanks gigabyte for wasting our time and my money! i dont know what should i do during this 2-3 weeks?!

tip of the day: dont buy anything from gigabyte...!
