Re: Wich Antivirus is best for Vista .. ?

I personally find Avast! AV to be very good - No compatibility problems and a choice of free or paid subscription.

If you were using Kaspersky 7 and were happy with it you can continue using it on Vista X64.I've used it and it works great!

Go through the "Vista Antivirus" threads in this Section (System Security) to get an idea of what most people are using.

And oh BTW, Welcome to Vista X64 Forums

Re: Wich Antivirus is best for Vista .. ?

using nod32 x64 3.0.563.0 and i have not had a problem with spyware, adware, or virus yet. however the nod kernel .exe is actually 32 bit in task manager, even though i installed the 64 bit version... i don't think im as safe as a true 64 bit antivirus would be

Re: Wich Antivirus is best for Vista .. ?

There seems to be a conflict of opinion on this issue. I bought a new computer about 2 months ago, with Vista OS, and researched the issue quite a bit before setting up my box.

The reviewers at many of the PC magazines praised The Norton Security suite quite highly. However, in reading the comments of ordinary users such as myself, there was almost unanimous condemnation of Symantec's product. So I went with Trend Micro's Internet Security Suite 2008, which was highly recommended by Consumer Reports magazine, a source I trust. So far, I've had absolutely no complaints with the software.
There were no installation problems and it's easy to set up and use. I bought it for $40. on Amazon and you can install it on up to 3 computers. Since I have 3, it worked out great for me.

Jim,

I would avoid anything Norton or McAfee for now. There has been way to many reported problems with these programs and Vista.

I use Avast and have had no problems. Plus, I have had not one virus. The program is fully customizable to.

The only problem I've had at all with my Trend Micro software was that I had to disable it in order to install a router. And I blame the router software for the conflict more than the security suite.

Re: Wich Antivirus is best for Vista .. ?

Yeah using Norton Antivirus or McAfee sometimes hang your computers.
I used at Vista Home Premium 32bit, it hangs then crash.
After uninstall Norton Antivirus and install Avast, more stability.
But how about Windows Defender? Does it an antivirus too?
