Solved Applications Stop Receiving Input at Random

Hi there. DWM was running 4500 KB. I will do the disk clean and reboot and report back. Thanks again.

Did you look again at Memory as I suggested in my last post?

I think I may have edited my last post while you were posting. I also asked about connections.

Didn't get the part about connections. I clicked on memory. DWM still seemed to have the most usage. Then I clicked on "see processes from all users" and some additional processes came up. SVCHOST.EXE had the highest amount of usage. If it helps, here is a picture of my task manager.

Right next to memory is CPU. Look for something other than system idle process to be taking up a high percentage when you are having trouble.

I asked if you had disconnected your keyboard and mouse from your computer and then connected them. I was thinking a connection might be a little dirty.

Yes the mouse and keyboard connections are fine. Another thing that is happening is that when I play a game running ActivX all of a sudden the focus will go back to desktop and I have to tab back into the game.

As someone suggested, I clicked on CPU and aside from taskmgr and the game I'm currently playing (btw the problem occurs whether a game is running or not so I don't think it's related to that.) the only things that take up the most CPU memory are wlmail (Windows Live) and vprot. A program called Updater was taking a lot and I ended it. Another one called INF.EXE is popping up and I can't end that. I'm not sure what INF does. It is a mystery. Some flashuti program comes near the top of the CPU usage as well.

No, usage meter probably goes up to maybe 85% or so, but after exiting several processes in Task manager, the problem seems to have stopped. This machine has a quad-core processor with 4GB ram but maybe there's too many processes running in the background.

No matter what the processor if it is maxed out more than likely your system will slow down until the processor is free. That is probably why applications are freezing. vprot is a process associated with the AVG toolbar and has been known to cause issues; if it where me I would remove it. Here is a thread on how to disable it: AVG Support and Discussion Forums | AVG Worldwide

From what I am reading INF.exe is than likely to be a worm or associated with a worm. You should immediately scan your system with your antivirus software or install and scan your system with microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes.

I'll try to get more specialized help for you.

I was reading about inf.exe yesterday and found suggestions that it might be viral. However, he said early on that he ran a full scan of his system for viruses and malware. That's why I didn't ask him to do that.

Hi guys. I got rid of the AVG stuff as suggested. Yes I did run Mckafe with no infections found but these guys that program these things are clever. There has been no issue at all tonight, probably since I didn't restart my machine since last night when I got rid of the exess processes. I just went into msconfig and unchecked most of the processes in the startup list. Next time I start up I should have no more difficulties. Thanks for all the good help guys. I will post again in a day or two either way. God bless!
