Black Borders on Screen

Rats! I'm out of ideas, sorry. All I can suggest is to reinstall and hope, since it used to work, it should be able to work again.

Set a restore point and remove the game you installed and see if that fixes the graphics problem.
You can always restore to get the game back or re-install it again

The first thing I did was restore before I installed the game. I also restored to the earliest point available but neither worked. And it may be that the game and its crashing wasn't the culprit, that I only noticed it at that point, though I tend to think that isn't the case.

What's strange now is that if I change my resolution to 1024 x 768 from 1280 x 960 the Hertz changes from 75 to 60. I get the feeling that isn't the way it's supposed to work or has worked in the past.

From what I can find, the Dell M991 is a 19" CRT display, not a LCD. Maybe it's time to upgrade :)

So 1280 x 960 at 75Mhz gets rid of the black margins? If so, why not leave it there?

I am using the higher resolution and it's an okay workaround but it's not a fix. Most annoyingly, games still have the black margins unless I change the hertz in-game and many older games don't have that feature. Perhaps I could I change it through their config.ini but I'm not sure about that. And how I do I know a new monitor will correct the problem if I don't understand its nature or origin?

I suppose I can do that, though I don't think I will. I guess a reinstall is in the offing. I have questions about that which I'll ask when I'm ready.
