Blue screens again

I will figure out the correct drivers

Regarding my bios the downloads page for my mother board only shows bios 17, which is a broken link and has been for a year or more. So I am using 16. I dont think there is a bios20 for my model aw9d-max. you got the wrong model I dont have the aw8-max. :)
This is the bios page for my board

You just beat me to this... LOL

Yeah sorry about that the BIOS mixup.

As to the memory errors - do you have your memory configured correctly? Timings, voltage? And which version of memtest did you finally use?

If memtest is locking up like that, then you may very well likely have bad memory. You can double check by checking one stick at a time. If one passes but the other fails, bad memory stick, if they both fail, bad memory sticks.

At any rate that's probably the wise thing to do. Do keep us informed.

Good luck

Memory Timing and voltage is correct, I have verified this. 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v
Memtest version 2.11 is what I used. I did not attempt v2.0 or testing single chips only. If memtest crashed and said I have errors it seems logical to think the memory is bad.

At any rate I am going to pick up new memory and report back after the new chips are installed.

Plugged in the pair, changed the bios, got a blank screen and keyboard lock after the windows chime. Tested Each individual chip and got into windows. switched the pair and im in. Windows loads. Now the waiting game

Wow that's some pretty high voltage for some RAM chips. My Corsair Dominator 2gig sticks run at 2.1 or 2.2 depending on the chip maker.

Let's hope this fixes your BSOD's. Make sure you manually set the timings as well.

Ok so these blue screens are freakin out of control. My OS is installed on a RAID0 Stripe connected to SATA1 & SATA2. these ports are controlled by the Intel ICH7R controller. In trying to figure out which driver version I have, I looked in device manager under Storage controllers>Intel 82801 GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (this is listed). Is something wrong here with this being the only Intel controller listed here? Could I have the completely wrong driver or what is going on?

I am about to format and re-install using the driver

v7.5.0.1017 from my manufactures website. But I may already have this and not looking in the right place to verify

Please advise

This has to be it.:) New Raid drivers from Intel released 1/09/2009. I have formatted, loaded new drivers. Installed windows. installed the new matrix storage console. Storage controllers in device manager Now show Intel ICH7R/DH SATA RAID Controler. Not 82801 SATA RAID Controller as before!

Still have to install SP1, Wifi Card, and display drivers.

First make sure you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard! Then install SP1, and any other windows updates afterwards, then install the display drivers. Wait to see if BSOD's occur. Next create a restore point then install the WiFi card and drivers. See what happens. If you get BSOD’s roll back to an earlier date/time before installing the WiFi card and drivers and see what happens.

To late, I would have if I read this sooner. I installed SP1 and my display driver immediately after windows loaded. I had SP1 loaded on a flash drive. WiFi card is Not installed. Not sure if I should reinstall windows again and follow your steps, or install the rest of the drivers now.

I have other hard drives connected to sata ports controlled by the Sil chipset. These drives show during boot, but are not visible in windows. Also device manager shows "!Mass Storage Controller" under other devices. I think I still need to install the Sil drivers.

Should I re-install OS or just move forward?

At this point you'll have to make some hard choices as to the direction to go based on the things you've tried to rid your problems. Can you RMA the motherboard? CPU? HD? I ask these things because it seems very likely that there is either a hardware problem or hardware confict.

Again, you'll have to make some hard decisions; one that's best left to you.

I cannot warranty the motherboard cpu or hd. I dont think any of my hardware is bad. I have no reason to believe so since everything was stable before sp1. why would it suddenly go defective right after? I never updated raid drivers correctly was the main problem. During my attempts to fix after sp1 somehow the inncorrect sata raid driver got installed. Plus Intel just released the new driver Im using now. I will just install the rest of the chipset drivers.

Question: Is it necessary to update the chipsets before sp1?

Honesty I'm running out of ideas. I would refer you to your motherboard's owner’s manual and install the software per the instructions there.

Example: My Intel 975XBX2 motherboard states I should install the chipset drivers before installing any other software. Since SP 1 is now incorporated in Vista, I would personally install SP1 after installing Vista, then install the chipset drivers, then everything else as had been mentioned throughout this thread.

Since you insist that there's nothing wrong with your hardware, and you've done multiple OS reinstalls with the same results - BSOD's, then it's time for some hard decisions.

Something is obviously not sitting right with Vista. Maybe you should install XP, see how that runs after a day or two.

If you get no BSOD’s then you can probably rule out a hardware failure, which now narrows the Vista problem down to either a hardware conflict or a software problem.

However if you still get the same BSOD error, again, you more than likely have a hardware failure and will have to figure out which component is bad.

Barring that, then I'm afraid your issue is beyond my scope of experience or expertise and I'm unable to offer any further assistance.

Sorry
