I will try the repair install now. Does anybody have any idea why I can't seem to see my system32 folder? Could this have anything to do with Windows not being able to log in. From what I understand the login problem can be caused by the userinit.exe file in system32 being missing.

EDIT: I'm confused, how do I run a repIr install if I am not able to log into windows?

Okay so I couldn't figure how to do a repair install but I was able to get into the admin account on safe mode. The problem is it only shows a black screen with the words safe mode in the corners and it gives me the cursor. If I use control-alt-delete to try to get the task manager it just shows the loading cursor for a few seconds then does nothing. Anybody have any suggestions on what I should do next.

You have use obviously of other computer, for communicating with us?
If access to other computer here is link direct to Dell, explains various processes, in the restore process.
Hope it is of some use, it is a easy to u/stand procedures.

If I'm understanding things there is a recovery partition on the computer.
Kesume has looked into it and says there is a key you press repeatedly until the recovery menu opens.
The rescue disc I sent you a link to is to get to that recovery partition if other means fail.

EDIT:He just PMed me and said you should press F8 to get to the recovery menu
