Solved BSoD with nvidia GeForce GT 430 graphics card

I installed the AMD Chipset Drivers and rebooted in Safe Mode with the new graphics card installed. I ran the installation disk and during driver installation I received BSoD indicating Bad_Pool_Caller

The system automatically restarted and I let it boot to normal mode which never fully happened...BSoD with System_Service_Exception message.

Remove the NVIDIA card and, if you can get into Safe Mode, run a system restore to before you installed the AMD chipset. Hopefully you'll be able to boot into Windows.

If that works, most likely you'll have to uninstall Catalyst again. Then shutdown and reinstall the NVIDIA card on your MOBO. Try a boot into Windows and see if Windows detects your card and installs the windows driver.

Patonb- unless it's got something to do with the motherboard being proprietary (as HP and all the others do), I wouldn't think he would have to use a graphics card driver from HP unless he had a laptop. Hopefully it will work out either way.

THe driver was from hp the as built amd chipset driver, not a gpu driver.

You can run just fine on the 9600 correct?

if yes, i'm starting to think your new 430 is busted.

Here's the latest details....

- I performed a system restore to a get back to a state prior to installing Catalyst and all the other AMD driver packages.

- Installed the HP chipset drivers for the m9515y from HP site and rebooted per the prompt after installation

- Shut down system

- Installed the GT 430 card and connected the monitor via the HDMI connection

- Restarted the computer and I noticed that as soon as desktop appeared a device was automatically being installed: "High Definition Audio Device Installed Successfully"

- Immediately after this message BSoD appeared indicating Memory_Management

- System automatically restarted and BSoD happened again "System_Service_Exception"

That's where I'm currently at.

Patonb - You are indeed correct that the 9600 card runs just fine (other than the broken fan). I also thought I purchased a GT 430 lemon and actually returned the first one I had before posting in this forum. I was hoping for an easy fix like that but unfortunately not.

I tried to bypass the nvidia installation software and do a manual driver installation for the GT 430 card. I booted into Safe Mode and went to device Manager.

The only thing listed under "Display Adapter" was 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'
I scanned for hardware changes which initiated a search for plug and play compliant hardware and the GT 430 did not show up in Display Adapter and there was no listing for Other Devices.

Should the new card show up in device manager while in safe Mode? This seems to be the only way that I get time to do anything before the system has an error when the GT 430 is installed.

I decided to check if i could perform this task if starting windows normally and as soon as the desktop loaded I received a blue screen error.

The drivers you need aren't installed with a boot into safe mode.

Here's a description of the exception you got-

Bug Check 0x3B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Note the cause.

Have you considered asking HP tech support about it? How about the Nvidia forum?

If you try either option, be sure to come back and let us know if you get a fix for it.

I just don't understand what's going on, like you. Even if you don't install the NVIDIA software, Windows should detect your card and provide a driver for it, albeit a generic one.

If you can boot with your old card, you could try a hot install of the new one after Windows is loaded. If that worked, the only problem I see is that, when you remove the old one, the new one has to be inserted into the same slot as the old one.

So by "hot install" do you mean remove the old card and insert the new one while the computer is booted up?

The problem I have is when I boot normally (not in safe mode) I only have a very short time or sometimes not at all before BSoD when the new card is plugged in. I wonder if it simply doesn't have enough time to be detected/generic driver installed?

Unless you want to fry your computer, DO NOT SWAP COMPONENTS WHEN IT IS ON!

Are you using the hdmi plug?

Have you tried with a vga/dvi cable instead.

Have you tried booting using the onboard, with the 430 in, then installing the 430 drivers.

oh, as a side note.. the catalyst drivers were used on the onboard gpu.

They used the Catalyst driver for the onboard graphics and a Nvidia driver for the card. I was always under the impression you couldn't use an Nvidia card on a AMD board but, apparently, I'm wrong. It's rather confusing because, when you insert the 430, it's asking for a AMD display driver. Maybe there's a hybrid driver required.

I was hoping a "hot install" was not what I actually thought it was!

I have been using an hdmi plug with the 430. When I leave the 430 in and connect the monitor to the onboard with a VGA cable the monitor stays black as if it does not recognize the VGA/onboard connection.

Interestingly enough, I have not encountered this request again. But I have not been able to get very far in normal mode before BSoD. I was hoping to get into device manager to see if the 430 pops up and manually install the driver but hit blue screen before this is possible and it doesn't show up in Safe Mode.

You can't without certain older drives.

Hmmmm.

Have you tried disabling the onboard graphics, and trying to do the setup?

I'll disable the onboard and let you know what happens. I must be missing something but can't fathom what is preventing the 430 from getting up and running. When the 430 is plugged in sometimes it does not even completely boot up before the blue screen appears, while the other times it errors out just after reaching the desktop.

And I really do appreciate the assistance of you and wither 3.

Still no GT 430 love. I booted up and ended up with BSoD. Just for ducks I put the old 9600 GS back in and immediately upon boot up I was informed "Installing device driver software - Video controller (VGA Compatible)" and eventually indicated that the nvidia 9600 GS was successfully installed.

Hes taken one back already though, so the odds of 2 is very low.

It could be quite possible the slot is not liking the pci-e 2.0 slot, which is not normal.

Buow Can you try the card in another system? This really stumps me
