hm...... the i7 920 is about the same as the phenom II 940...... difference is price.... can get just as much from it as the i7 920
hm and card wise........ i think the 4870 is still better.... or if you wait a week or two..... (Not sure when exactly) and get the 4890 :D really good card
but a 260 is also a good card :D

edit.... the 4890 is out now.... i would try to get that :D

For the first system you've priced up, I'd try get a Q9xxx processor instead of the Q8xxx. Will be a bit more expensive, but the Q9xxx processors are better.

I wouldn't bother with an SSD drive either, save yourself some money and just get a decent HDD.

Apart from that, though, both computers would be great. Just watch out getting an OEM Vista disk as you can only install it once.

Pizzaman, you call yourself an ATI fan when you've only just realised a month later the 4890 is out ;)

Yeah I was thinking along those lines myself. Still have not hammered out a definite plan but getting closer. Sometimes you just get lost on newegg and the like looking at all these things. I get on after work, a trip here, then to newegg, then to anandtech, then... you get the picture. Two hours later and your in the same spot. ha ha but it is fun and I'm learning and that what it is all about.
