Solved Can I go from Vista 64 to Vista 32?

Iin January, I bought a Gateway laptop which has VIsta 64 on it. I have run into some problems with the 64 bit technology. I am a travel agent and use Amadeus, which does not support 64 bit technology. Also, when I try to use Skype, it will not recognize my webcam. I don't know if that is related to the 64 bit technology or not.

My question is: Can I install the 32 bit Vista on my laptop? The people at Best Buy said I couldn't because the hardware in the laptop was configured for 32 bit. Is that true? Help!

Hi promeet and welcome to Vista Forums

There is no reason why you can't install and use 32-bit Vista on your laptop providing, of course, that you can get 32-bit drivers for your hardware. What is the exact model number of your laptop, as this will help us to find out whether or not 32-bit drivers are available. Note that we often have this query going the other way round, i.e. 32-bit to 64-bit, but the same principle follows - it is only possible providing suitable drivers are available.

You can install 32-bit Vista, but you would have to do a clean install to do so. Plus, you would want to make sure that you have 32-bit Vista drivers available for all of your devices to.

You would also have to purchase a copy of a 32-bit Vista as well.

Find out what video and audio card your laptop comes with and get the drivers, more than likely, everything else will be set by the Vista x32 installation.

The Best Buy guys either misunderstood you or was just blatantly lying to you .
