The easiest solution is to go buy a usb floppy, load the 3rd party sata driver, and install XP. Other than the usb thumbdrive (which I have used myself to load my sata drivers), There is no other work around other than slipstreaming the sata/raid driver onto your installation disk.

ok... just so i got this correct....
1-install the sata driver onto the thumb drive...
2-uninstall the u3 driver thereafter from vista...
3-change boot device 1 to usb, boot device 2 to CD
4-restart cpu
5-when xp setup initializes press F6 to install 3rd party driver
6-at this point it should ask me to press "S" and do so
7-it will recognize the thumb drive as a floppy and see the driver to install
8-continue the XP setup (which at this time will be able to see the disk partition)????
does that sum it up???

Install sata driver onto thumbdrive (if u3 or other software is on drive remove it prior to placing sata driver on it)
change boot to:
IDE CD
USB key
USB FDC
USB CDROM
USB HDD

Hit F6, navigate to usb drive, install driver, at this point your HDD should be visable with partition(s), Install XP onto newly created partition.

when selecting boot config....
the usb devices are only listed as USB1, USB2, USB3, etc.. when i try to set them, they are lacking detail, so i am unsure of what it will be... so i am only going to ahve the thumb plugged in and nothing else....
i hope this works....

usb devices like thumbdrives and usb hdd's do not need drivers (windows autmatically installs them). the device should show under "computer" if a drive letter has been assigned.

No. You have to run programs like CMD as admin, other programs that need to be run as admin will open an elevated privilege window.

What you call "DOS" is the Windows Command Processor in Vista, or "Command Prompt", or simply "cmd"
Only through cmd "ran as administrator" can you edit the Vista boot config (what you think of as boot.ini) You cannot, to my knowledge, edit the boot config in Vista to run XP (that is not installed) as a method to bypass the 3rd party install of SATA drivers which are preventing you from installing XP in the first place.

Your best bet as I have said earlier is to simply purchase a usb floppy, and load the required SATA drivers off it.
Users should exercise caution when editing the boot config, and slipstreaming the drivers onto an XP installation disk may be a task more difficult than it sounds.

You have spent 20+ hours on this when all you need is a floppy disk drive. Invest in the drive, and good luck.
