Solved Cannot uninstall Bully: Scholarship Edition

Bump.

The dx9 folder in my disk is probably what is causing the problem. I need to find a way to delete it so the message won't even come up and will skip the DirectX 9 installlation.

One way was to when it displayed the first grey message, open the task manager and look on a list of processes. End the process for the directx9 installation will skip it but it is too fast, and ther eis no such thing anyway.

Thanks for the update, it seems that some users on our sister site Windows 7 Forums have a rather ingenious way to fix this issue, go here and look at the last post Bully: Scholarship Edition. Windows 7. "DirectX 9 Installation failed" - Windows 7 Forums

Hope it gets sorted Peter

I've already read that. How can you access an installation folder that dosen't exist until you've installed the game which I can't do?

The file directory isn't in the bully install folder, it's in c:\windows\system32 :-/

To my surprise, I found a directx folder in that directory and cut-pasted the extracted dx9 files into it, and it still won't work. That step-by-step guide is very confusing. The poster is referring to a non-existant install folder until you've installed the game where the folder "dx9" resides. The same file exists in the game disc as well. I cannot edit the disc; I cannot delete stuff from it nor can I replace files. I assure you that there are no viruses detected at the moment, according to my last AVG scheduled scan.

Let's start all over again. First we have to download these files which are, for some reason, extractable. Here's what I did.

1. I downloaded the files from the link provided by the poster in the 7 forum.
2. I ran the downloaded .exe file which puts the .RAR (in my case) files to wherever I want.
3. I cut the files from where they where put into C:/windows/System32/directx and then ran the installation.

Please be more specific about the poster. I feel we are close to solving this problem.

Oh and by the way, there's something about the error message that comes up when it tries to install DirectX 9. The window in which installs the game (where you put in your username and your occupation title) goes a bit funny, it seems to chop off some of all of it's 4 sides. What has that got to do with things?

EDIT: I've gone into more detail about DirectX 9, 10 and 11. It seems that by default the game automaticly runs in DirectX 9. I looked at some Wikapedia pages listing the compatible games with DX10 and 11. Bully is not one of those games.

Installing the newest driver for your graphics card is usually the best way to go, but if directx 9 won't install then it seems like grasping at straws, which frankly, I am doing to solve this issue, I will find a fix though, hang on in there Peter.

Double post, right, there might be a way to skip directx install but you'll need to be quick, open up task manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL at the same time and click on task manager, go to processes and move task manager to the side, start the bully installation and click next until it tries to install dx9 and quickly go to task manager and find dxsetup.exe in that list, right click and end task, that should skip the direct x installation and proceed with the game install *fingers crossed*

Unfortunately dxsetup.exe does not appear in the list even when the installation is trying to install it.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!! Bully is WORKING!!! All I had to do, aside from installing the DirectX June 2010 files given to me by Rockstar Support, I figured that it diden't ask me for the password when I tried to install the game. So I ran the installation program as an administrator and it installed! Even DirectX9 installed lol.

Thank you so much for helping me, but in the end it seems we both did our part in making the game work :D
