Can't rebuild my machine, very weird

Hmm. Not sure what's going on but you won't be able to edit a windows hard drive with your mac although I believe some distributions of Linux do allow writing to an ntfs partition. However you can use your Vista disk to enter a command prompt. Now are you saying that you can't use the Vista disk at all?

Did you try connecting the devices in the positions I mentioned?

I just wanted to mention that the screen you said it freezes on when going to Safe Mode may sit up there for a minute or two. Maybe you're not waiting long enough. Give it five minutes.

I waited 10 mins and nothing. I don' think that it was just stuck on
one particular task.

Hi, yes, I just did that.

My bad about the long replies, but I'm busy in other parts of
my life and I can't really ignore those obligations and I still
want to fix my box :) .

The result of making that hardware change has been less than
successful. I keep getting the same symptoms.

I'm beginning to suspect that this is an issue with the mobo
and would like to buy one from BestBuy in order to get something
that will work for me and try that.
