I also doubt that a used processor is worth $500 especially after being retired. For example when I built my desktop I could only afford a single core for $180. After the socket was discontinued the dual core version cost $60 whereas earlier it would have cost $300. Computer parts go down in price. Now selling it on ebay might get you a few bucks but there won't be anyone willing to pay that especially after the socket is discontinued because at that point there aren't any motherboards being made for it. You will probably end up selling it for someone that needs a cpu for their system.

I use a paper clip to stop and prevent the fan blades of spinning, then blast the laptop intake/exhaust with an air compressor on medium/low pressure, never had a single problem in years.

Are you saying that you consider 1700 to be "disposable"?

The price of Laptops these days are a bargain now here in Australia, I have had my Laptop since 2008, so when I first got it, they were relatively high priced, these days you can pick up one with the double the ram faster processor etc for $500 and that would be a fairly good one
