Hi all
When starting my HP DV6 -1106ax notebook I get a "sidebar.exe - Bad Image" alert. This stops the side bar from running.
When opening Windows Mail I also get a "Outlook Express Community Manager: WinMail.exe - Bad Image" alert followed by three other alerts.
The computer is running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, service pack 2. I also use Norton 360
The Bad Image error alert for both Sidebar and Windows Mail is the same for both and reads:
C:\Windows\system32\CRYPTUI.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software ventor for support.
The cryptui.dll file in the system32 folder is 949 KB in size. I have found a new cryptui.dll file on the internet but it is only 500 KB in size which would suggest it is not the correct replacement. I have also tried to rename the original cryptui.dll file, but could not do this even in safe mode. I am not sure what or when this change happened.
Thanks
Waylin
