DVD drive won't recognize a software disk

Which disc do you have, Hyperfont, Auto Punch ....?

That software is not cheap from what I can see.

Well at least you have found some support, I'm sorry we couldn't be more help.

OK, I am curious if the flash drive method would work, it sure seems odd that your DVD drive doesn't even know there is a disc in it, it should at least say something like unable to read or something.

Well, I have some news.

I got in touch with the company that I bought the machine from and they gave me an 800 number for Singer Education support.

After talking with them, it seems that my drive speed might be the problem. Once I fax them over a copy of my receipt, they will send me a new disk that will hopefully be compatible with my drive speed.

In the meantime, as soon as I can locate my flash drive, I'm going to try to copy the files to that in hopes that I can install it from there.

Funny thing, I have a WD external hard drive and I tried to copy the files to that but my desktop computer won't recognize that it's attached.

Another can of worms that I don't care to open.

Try this
Go to search by the start button. Type device manager.
Look for any yellow markers by the drivers. Maybe a driver is corrupted.
If the software company does not come through, we can check to make sure drivers are updated. That may be a problem, too.

Ok at this point I'd just try restarting both your computers and see if that doesn't clear up any issues, both with the DVD and can't recognize hard drive problem. Also, make sure you're connecting the external HD to one of the USB hubs in the back of the machine, and not through a monitor or keyboard port, or even ones on the front of your machine. And not through a USB splitter. I've had recognition issues with those in the past. Also make sure your other computer will recognize it like normal to make sure it's not your HD's fault.

    Usually have low HD free space left (<10 GB), often left on overnight. I really push its capabilities.
Richard, I've already done that a number of times and there were no problems that I could see.

I had to send my computer in for some warranty work and they replaced my hard drive, my wireless module and they also replaced my CD/DVD drive. It's a newer model, so I'm thinking that it's also a faster one.

I'm going to see if my daughter can come over later with her laptop and maybe I can copy the files to and from that, and then maybe install the software.

I have this happen sometimes and a reboot fixes it

Check Autoplay is not set to do nothing when an .exe is inserted
