Is dx10.1 able to be used on an 8 series card. I have an 8800gts 512 but dxdiag tells me i have dx10 even after installing sp1. I have read that dx10 cards can use dx10.1 but if its not showing up in dxdiag then am i missing something?

I have an 8 series card too, we will have to live without 10.1. The 9 series can do 10.1.

Sorry, but i know for a fact no nvidia card on the market atm supports DX10.1, only the ATI 3 series supports it. But it doesnt really matter anyway, one of the first games which supported (assassins creed), which when it first came out supported 10.1, but they removed it and nearly no other game on the market uses it, so dont worry.

Revogame is correct and I agree with his comment completely.

I bet 10.2 or 11 will be out before many games support 10.1.

Thats funny...I installed VistaX32 on a Pentium D 6Ghz, 2gb DDR2-533 Ram, 7600GT Nvidia GPU and it runs it way better than most of my comps

if you read what Crytek, maker of Crysis said about Crysis2.. he thinks that 10.1 is not all that important and he is skipping it completely.. Nvidia did not add this to there cards for 1: then they could be more easily compared to ATI for how good they are becuase they'd both support that. they don't want to be on the same level as ATI, they wanna be ahead, and for 2 becuase they wanted to skip it and go right for the DX11 along with this next gen cards we are waiting for.. GTX280 I'm assuming. We can expect to see DX11 with Windows 7 in 2010. get on Nvidia's site and they talk about DX10.1 not bein all the important, or necessary in there opinion, thats also where I read that Crytek was not using 10.1 in his new game that i CAN'T wait for..

Farcry2 also does not use the 10.1 either!

so don't worry about the 10.1 and your 8800. just wait for the next gen cards from Nvidia, and or ATI.. and the new games that will follow. :)

Dx 10.1 is not big and will not be a big thing. So there is no need to worry if your video card supports it or not. As long as you have a recent video card that supports Dx 10, you'll be more than fine with that.

Thats funny...I installed VistaX32 on a Pentium D 6Ghz, 2gb DDR2-533 Ram, 7600GT Nvidia GPU and it runs it way better than most of my comps

I started out testing Longhorn and Vista on A P4 2.0(A) GHz machine with 1 GB RAM and all IDE 7200 rpm drives - using a GeForce MX 440 (obviously, no Aero or anything like it) until I upgraded the card to an ATI x1650 Pro. Then the mobo died and I had to upgrade the mobo and still use my Socket 478 CPU and AGP card - so I got the MSI 865PE Neo2 Platinum Edition mobo, and then bolstered the RAM to 2, then 3 GB. Then I built the new machine last month.

So, I know how you feel, DMEX....I know how you feel. And strangely enough, you're right, I had less problems on the 2.0 GHz machine than the 3.2 GHz machine - although, I am still running the original X64 install I did a month ago, so all is well here *thus* far....

As far as DX 10.1 is concerned, well, I am DX 10 compliant, and unless someone wants to give me a lot of money, I am staying DX 10 complaint. Nuff said.
