Hello, I would really appreciate some help in trying to fix a problem I think I have created myself! I am not all that great at computer tech stuff, but I try to do things on my own, sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. I had a Titanic game CD from 1996 that I wanted to install on my lap top, I am running 2007 Vista Home Edition. It would not load, said I had to create a file to associate it with. I tried that, it worked but was all distorted so I uninstalled the game. Now I try to click on any of my items on the desktop or under programs and they ALL say this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the set assoc. control panel. Oh dear, what have I done??!!
It sounds like you mistakenly set the associations for .exe and .lnk (LNK - shortcuts) files wrong. Downloading and merging the .exe and .lnk, then restarting the computer should sort this for you. They will restore the default associations for them.
