Solved Globe Icon on Vista taskbar ( Not the internet connected one )

You could also run msconfig.exe and check the Services and Startup items. Possibly do a clean boot to see if the problem occurs again.

Wither 3, thanks.

I ran msconfig.exe and checked the Services and Startup items. I couldn't see anything obvious, but to be honest, apart from recognising the odd program part of the item, eg. AVG etc, I am not sure I would know if something should not be there.

How do I do a "clean boot", and does that risk losing anything ?

Pete

My Computer

You don't run the risk of losing anything. Since it will disable anti-virus, you might want to set a system restore point first.

Just run msconfig.exe. In the Services, click on "hide Microsoft...." and then click on Disable All.

In the Startup tab, click on Disable All.

Reboot and wait to see if you still have the same problem.

Run msconfig.exe again as soon as possible and restore the defaults.

Thanks, I have done as you said, then ran msconfig again after start up, clicked 'enable all' on services and startup, and it required restart which I did.

I now just have to wait and see ( and hope ) that the globe doesn't appear.

Will let you know !

It kept me optimistic for a few hours, but a few minutes ago.................

You guessed it

The bloody globe again !

PLEASE somebody tell me what it is ?
or just promise that it isn't dangerous ?

AVG doesn't detect it or block it, so it can't be a virus surely ?
I just can't believe I am the only one to have it !

Gone out of my mind......again............ Pete

My Computer

You shouldn't enable the defaults until after you have checked to see if the problem comes back with the Services and Starup items disabled. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I can confirm that no globe has appeared, when previously, I would have expected 2 or more appearances. I am not going to enable the previous Services or Start ups until about midday tomorrow, but lets say there is still no globe.

I am guessing you are going to say that one of the Services or Start ups is the problem, so I will then have to find out which one.

I really don't want to restart every time with one enabled until............. so is there an easy way to find out please ?

Thanks for at least solving the problem though !

My Computer

Well, the idea is to start big and then narrow it down. I would start by enabling a group of maybe ten in the Startup tab and rebooting. Do this until you find the culprit in the latest group. Seems to me that you could sensibly eliminate some things as the culprit. There's no way to avoid the iterative process. If the culprit isn't in the Startup items, then you would obviously start doing the same thing in Services. I know it's tedious.

At least I'm getting the hang of it by guessing that's what you were going to say !

As the globe only pops up for a minute or so each time but several times a day, I really need to leave each added group about a day, so might take me some time !

However, seriously thank you for your advice on this. I am now happy you have provided the answer in how to detect what's causing the globe.

I have had ZERO suggestions on the Microsoft forum IN 3 MONTHS !

Thank you so much

Pete

You're welcome. Just remember to come back and let us know what you find.

By the way, is it possible for you to get us a better screenshot of the "globe".

Sure, although a part of me wishes I never see it again ;-)

I used a camera before to photo globe. Is there a way to actually capture what's on the screen ?

Sorry for my ignorance if that is obvious !

Pete

My Computer

After I typed that, I realized I should have said, if you see it again.

If you see it, just hit Print Screen on your keyboard. Then open Paint and right click on the main screen and select Paste. The screen image will appear. You can then crop it by moving the corners of the screen and then select File, Save As and save it as an image file.

I may be being thick, but it doesn't matter how many times I hit the PrtSc button, on it's own, or with any of the shift, Ctrl,Fn,Alt or even the Esc buttons ( as the button has PrtSc above SysRq on it ), nothing happens !

By the way, this is just to test it, as I still haven't seen the globe again yet :-)

My Computer

Forget that, I've just googled and although nothing happens when you hit the button, if you then open accesories, paint, edit and paste, the screen shot appears.

Just waiting for my globe now !

My Computer

All it does is put the image on the clipboard. You won't see the image until you do the paste as I mentioned in my last post. I was going to respond to your notification earlier but, apparently the server was down for two or three hours, since I couldn't get here.

Hi Wither 3

No problem, got there in the end.

Update - Went through all Start Ups, and now with all of them enabled, no sign of Globe so far.

Services, when I hide 'all microsoft services', the two AVG services are enabled again, but the other 12 Services are still disabled.

So far, still no Globe.

My plan now if still nothing by tomorrow, is to enable 6 of the Services at a time.

My Computer

okay. See you tomorrow.

Wither 3

I believe I have now identified the culprit as the following in 'Services'

HiSuiteOuc.exe

What to do next ?

Do I just disable it and enable all the other services, or is there something I need to remove or delete ?
I do have a HiSuite program installed that works with my phone, but that was installed in May this year whereas the globe first appeared in September.

Any advice welcome please, but again to say that you are a star in helping me identify this, many thanks.

My Computer

Go here-
HiSuite 1.6.10.08 - Download Now for Huawei Android Devices

Look at the screen shot of the hisuite screen. Does the update globe on the left hand side look familiar?

You should be able to delete this from Control Panel, Programs and Features. If not, you could just disable the service.
