Graphics Card (or drivers) issue. ATI 4870

What he means is have you tested your memory using memtest86+? You very well could have some bad memory sticks.

I thought it was obvious what I meant :p

I have now noticed what appears to be a common thread. It seems that nearly every time UAC engages (or even when I attempt to run something as administrator) I am sent directly to black screen (and my keyboard shuts down). What exactly is engaging with UAC that could cause this?

I have no idea. You keep mentioning that keyboard, you sure that thing is functioning right? USB problem - Have you checked device manager for yellow marks next to devices/USB's?

Outside of that, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.

Sorry.

I have already tried swapping the usb keyboard for a ps2 keyboard with no change. I only mention the keyboard because it has backlighting and that backlighting goes out each time this occurs. I thought it might provide additional information into solving this problem.

I've done that four times. Also doesn't work. Problems begin to crop up as soon as I install the ATI graphics drivers. Someone earlier noted that it is almost definitely not the graphics card or drivers.

OK. 10 consecutive runs of Memtest86+ - all passes. Nothing wrong with the memory. What's left? The power supply - the mobo? Could they be bad from the start and if so - how would I know?
