Help with Capturing Screen

I read that if you use Alt+Print screen that you can capture the active full screen and then paste into email if you like. I did this and when I went to paste it was greyed out.
Do you first have to go into paint... I tried both prnt screen and ALT+prnt screen.

Is there something I am missing

thanks, Ken

Well, Ken, there's only one bit of information that you did NOT bring to our attention. What program are you using to PASTE it into... Microsoft Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Paint.NET ...what... This may make a HELL of a difference. :) And it will be easier to help with. I see that you said "Paint" but you could be, by chance using Paint.NET, because if you aren't I recommend it. It will make your life sooo much easier.

As Joan said, the snipping tool is the easiest. When you open snipping tool, click on the arrow on the 'new button', select full screen, click the save icon in the window that pops up.

So you do have to go through paint?... I was able to do a print screen and paste directly into Word... why can't I paste directly into email or other website.

Zyonix... I went to a Microsoft website and they said all you had to do was to hit alt/prnscreen and then go to where you wanted to display the image and just hit paste. There was no mention of any intermediary program that had to be used such as paint... and as I mentioned I was able to do this directly to a word document without having to go through any other programs

thanks,
ken

You say you've manged to save it to a Word document, what happens when you try to send that as email.
You haven't told us what email client you are using.

Hi kenshireen

Sorry to be the barer of bad news but there is a known problem with Windows Mail not able to accept pasted images directly.

This is AFAIK not been addressed by Microsoft, although it is not an issue with Windows Live Mail, which is generally considered a replacement / upgrade to Windows Mail

If you need to send an image with Windows mail you will have to create an image file and attach it to the mail.

Have a look here for live mail

In snipping tool, there is a capture window option. Snipping tool should be under accessories on the start menu.

SORRY...NO HELP...just a work-around...
That's a problem I have been having on my new VISTA machine with Windows Mail at home.

I can paste the screen capture into a Word doc or into an OpenOffice doc...but NOT into an e-mail. I do this all the time at work and it works just fine in OUTLOOK and my other programs. I also tried a screen capture from "MWSnap" (which works with my other programs, too). So, I just assumed that it is a bug with Microsoft Windows Mail software.

I've just resorted to a work-around and pasted into my doc and then saving and e-mailing the doc...a pain-in-the-behind but at least I can send the screen capture.
