Maybe a faulty ribbon cable or connector, or maybe just as simple as they just don't get on, sounds silly but it does happen, that's why I got rid of my 160gb hitachi that's in my system specs, wouldn't get picked up by my new mobo :-(

7 years of use, could have failed, it's happened to me before, i've had a hard drive for 2 years and it's failed before, but obviously it's been under warranty, unfortunately for you, the warranty will only last 3 years so I think it's time for a new hard drive, anyway, SATA is a far superior platform to work with, i can't wait to get a Blu-Ray drive for my desktop as it will speed up my install time of games upto 4x due to SATA connectivity ;-)
