how do i copy dvd to hard drive

Circumventing any dvd copy protection is against the Law in the US and the UK. This would make the use of DVD Shrink illegal for making backup copies of a DVD with copyright protection.

Yes, you cannot rip a commercial DVD without circumventing the dvd copy protection and that would be illegal. If you have DVD's with home movies or such on them that have no copy protection then you can use the free DVDDecryptor legally to rip the vobs to the harddrive or I think you can just copy them over to the harddrive? and then use Handbrake if you want to compress it to a mp4 or avi.
