how do i delete "earlier version of windows"?

The Vista partition should be System, Active.

The XP partition should be made INACTIVE.

That is the whole point of the exercise.

Did you mark the XP partition INActive with Paragon? then CLICK APPLY

yes i marked the c as active and the d as inactive, but i have just gone through the steps again, and it is showing both drives as active, so i will repeat the process and try to boot again...

i have repeated the steps to making the c active, and the d inactive, when i rebooted it again made me boot from the disk and i again had to run a start up repair, and now when i go into paragon it is once again showing both as active
